Spring Mini Catalogue: Laura’s Top Picks

The new Spring Mini catalogue is now live! And wow oh wow, I can’t remember the last time I was this excited for a new catalogue. I think Stampin’ Up! has really outdone themselves this time!

Here are some of the products I’m excited to get my hands on. Will this help you narrow down your wish list, or perhaps add a few more items you hadn’t considered?

Best Item for Beginners Sweet Strawberry stamp set

I love that this stamp set has a charming variety of sentiments, a whimsical collection of images, and two co-ordinating punches you could add on if you wish (Strawberry Builder and Small Bloom). That makes this the perfect item to start your stampin’ collection – all you need is paper and ink, and you’re ready to start creating!

Best Sentiment Stamp SetHappy Thoughts

Inspired by Million Sales Achiever Jackie Bolhuis, this stamp set is a versatile collection of thoughtful, kind greetings ready to be paired with any other product to customize your creations. This stamp set is simple, striking, and indispensable!

Best Graphic Stamp SetPretty Perennials

Inspired by Million Sales Achiever Dena Rekow, this stamp set includes a delightful collection of blooms you can layer, customize, and enjoy! I’ve chosen this as the Best Graphic stamp set, but it also includes a terrific set of sentiments that will have you reaching for it again and again. Bundle with the co-ordinating dies and/or the FREE Sale-a-Bration Designer Series Paper, “Paper Blooms“, for even more fun!

Best EmbellishmentGilded Leafing

This new embellishment is as stunning as the name suggests! Gilded Leafing offers a truly luxe feel at a very affordable price. You will love dressing up your projects with this gorgeous new product!

Best Designer Series Paper Fine Art Floral

Imagine an artist, delicately painting individual canvases in a classic impasto style… that’s exactly how Stampin’ Up! created this paper! First, an artist hand-painted canvases with beautiful florals and textures in classic Stampin’ Up! colors. Then the canvases were photographed and turned into this unique designer series paper, including florals, patterns, colour variance, and all the touches of professional paintings.

Runner Up: Love You Always Specialty DSP

Not just for Valentine’s Day, this elegant paper is striking yet subtle. Don’t believe me? Look at this gorgeous Christmas card I received from fellow demonstrator Heather:

Thanks to Heather, I’m completely sold on this stunning paper!

Best Punch BundleSweet Ice Cream

I love that Stampin’ Up! has offered us this adorable, versatile stamp set with a handheld punch, making it affordable and accessible for every level of crafter. The stamp set includes ice cream cones, sprinkles, birthday greetings, sweet sentiments, and more, that will make everyone’s heart melt. The bundle is fabulous on its own, and the co-ordinating Ice Cream Corner paper is perfect for punching out those frozen treats!

Best Die BundleSimply Succulents

If you can only buy one die bundle from this catalogue, it should be this one! The gorgeous ‘negative image’ background is absolutely stunning, the stamp set offers a great combination of sentiments and images, and the rest of the die set includes not just dies for the stamped images, but lovely label pieces for these and many other sentiments as well. This bundle has it all!

Here are some beautiful hand-coloured samples of this set from my teammate, Dianna!

Best New Tool – Blending Brushes

These brushes are a game changer! It’s hard to tell from the photo, but the blending surface is not foam or sponge; instead, it’s thousands and thousands of velvety soft bristles that blend ink perfectly. You can apply extremely light shades of ink, create soft gradient backgrounds with no lines, use them with Decorative Masks or stencils, and so much more!

My first time playing with the Blending Brushes!

Kits

The Spring Mini Catalogue has three terrific kits for you to enjoy. Stampin’ Up! kits offer choreographed crafting experiences, expertly designed with precut pieces, instructions, and co-ordinated products for you to have a stress-free, successful crafting session!

Hello, Dear Friend is an all-inclusive card kit that makes 12 cards. Everything you need to complete the project, from beginning to end, is included.

You Are Amazing is a project kit that makes 16 cards and a decorated box to hold them. You will need to purchase the co-ordinating stamp set and inkpads separately, or use your own supplies to complete the cards.

The Flowering Cactus Product Medley includes stamps, paper, dies, and accessories that you can use to create whatever you want – cards, scrabooking/memory keeping, decor projects, gift packaging, or anything else you can imagine! Let your creativity run free, with the confidence that your end projects will co-ordinate flawlessly.

In Case You Missed It:

Imagine being able to stamp 18 messages with one stamp … and then flawlessly cut them out with one co-ordinating die! Make cardmaking quick and easy with the amazing Many Messages bundle. Prepare your sentiments ahead of time and be ready for any occasion at any time!

The much-anticipated Mini Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine is now available!  The mini machine comes with all the plates you need to get started. With a compact footprint and a price tag of just $82, it’s both affordable and convenient for crafters at any level!

I’ve had my new (standard size) machine for a few months now and I love it. It is steadier than the Big Shot, easier to use thanks to the numbered plates, and beautifully sleek and compact (did I mention the platform folds up when not in use?).

Remember that you’ll also earn a free Level One Sale-a-Bration reward item with your purchase of the fabulous new “Mini Machine”! This product is also available as a half-price item with a qualifying party of $550 or more!

Speaking of parties, the exclusive hostess set this season is “Suite Sampler“. As you might guess, the set includes a variety of stamps that coordinate with the suites in the Spring Mini – Dandy Garden, Fine Art Floral, Hydrangea Hill, Sand & Sea, Love You Always, and Ice Cream Corner.

Best Deal in the Catalogue: The Starter Kit on page 89
The Starter Kit is always the best deal in the catalogue! Choose up to $165 in product for only $135, AND free shipping, AND free business supplies, AND access to amazing online resources to help you succeed and build your business your way. PLUS, if you join before February 28th, you’ll also receive a beautiful assortment of 6×6″ Designer Series Papers – absolutely free!

You can learn more about becoming a demonstrator by reading my Starter Kit FAQ, and if you still have questions, please email me! I’m excited to help you learn about this opportunity!

It wouldn’t be right for me to end this post without mentioning Sale-a-Bration, or as we seasoned stampers like to call it: The Most Wonderful Time of the Year! If you’re new to Stampin’ Up! and don’t know what Sale-a-Bration is all about, I’ll give you a quick explanation: this gorgeous little brochure full of awesome products should have landed in your mailbox recently (if it didn’t, let me know and I’ll send you one!). As usual, Sale-a-Bration offers terrific rewards for those who Shop, Host, or Join. There are exclusive free products to be earned with your purchase from either the annual catalogue or the new Spring Mini catalogue; even the Clearance Rack on the Stampin’ Up! website! You’ll see there are two levels of rewards available: Level One rewards are earned with a $60 purchase, and Level Two rewards are earned with a $120 purchase. Sale-a-Bration items are only available until February 28th (or while supplies last) and will not be offered again.

OnStage @Home

At the beginning of 2020, I had planned to travel to Utah this month to attend OnStage. OnStage is a semi-annual celebration of all that is Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators from all over the world attend this event where achievers are recognized for their accomplishments over the past year, we are all spoiled with swag and gifts, and we get to see the upcoming catalogue before anyone else. There are business presentations, product demonstrations, and opportunities to use brand new products and even take them home.

Then, of course, Covid threw us all a curveball, and travelling to Utah was out of the question – but Stampin’ Up! wasn’t about to let that stop them. Instead, they figured out ways to offer the whole event in a virtual format. So instead of travelling, I got to stay at home in my comfy clothes – with no airplane or hotel costs, no worry about childcare, and no lineup to my own private bathroom – and enjoy an amazing three days of learning, laughing, creating, and celebrating together with over 10,000 other demonstrators around the world!

The fun started on Thursday evening with a wonderful performance by rock legends Pat Benetar and Neil Giraldo, who performed several of their classic hits and had us all dancing around our respective rooms. Pat’s voice was as strong and flawless as ever, and she gave us an amazing performance to kick off an evening of celebration!

I was honoured to be recognized in three categories for my achievements over the past year (October 2019 – September 2020).

As my name was called, I blew a kiss to all my fans, followers, team members and customers who have helped me reach these goals! (By the way – if you’re reading this, THAT MEANS YOU!)

It was also very motivating to see the higher achievements from all over the world be recognized and applauded! It was wonderful to cheer and give shout-outs in the online chat to all the names I recognized; I have made a LOT of friends through Stampin’ Up! When the recognition event ended, we were all given access to the beautiful new upcoming January-June mini catalogue, and the upcoming Sale-a-Bration brochure. As always, they are packed with great stuff that I can’t wait to show you!

Day Two began with some demonstrations with terrific new products from the upcoming Mini catalogue and SAB brochure. Here are some of my favourites:

Then it was time for the session I was most excited for! Had our event been taking place in person, we would have enjoyed a “Make and Take” project with brand new products. Stampin’ Up! wanted to give us this opportunity, but had to do it a little differently and even give it a new name: Stamp and Share! All demonstrators who registered for OnStage were given the opportunity to purchase a variety bundle of products to use in the Stamp and Share. It was a little nerve-wracking to order product sight unseen, but I took the plunge, and I’m so glad I did because I LOVE these products!

Clockwise from bottom left: the Dragonfly Garden stamp set + punch, Mossy Meadow 1/4″ braided trim, cardstock and DSP prepared as per the instructions for the Stamp and Share, tiny ladybug charms, and Dandy Garden 6×6″ Designer Series paper. (BTW: I LOVE this paper.) Along with thousands of demonstrators from all over the world, I stamped, punched, and assembled as instructed (not so different from the Mystery Stamping events I hold!) and created the three beautiful cards below:

I had so much fun playing with this suite of products and was absolutely tickled that for my Pop-Up Prize, I won the second stamp set from the suite! This wonderful stamp set, Garden Wishes, co-ordinates with a very charming set of dies, including one that embosses a curvy little dotted path to indicate where the bee is flying. I love sweet little touches like that!

And if you’re wondering what a Pop-Up Prize is? Every demonstrator who attends OnStage is given a prize number, from 1-6. The numbers are drawn throughout the day, and everyone with that number wins that prize. By the end of the day, every demonstrator has won a prize! Here are the other prizes won at the event:

Another presentation I loved was when Shannon West introduced us to “Choose Your Own Adventure” stamping as she held interactive polls for the audience to choose the paper, ink colour, and embellishments – then she used the winning items to create her cards. I’d love to include something like this with my future videos and classes! 🥰

Here are some more amazing projects we saw in the product demonstrations from Day Two. All of these are from the upcoming January-June Mini Catalogue, which starts January 5.

Well Suited

Ice Cream Corner

Sand and Sea

Love You Always

One of the amazing traditions that Stampin’ Up! has created is that when a demonstrator reached one million CSV in sales, they get to work with a professional designer to design a stamp set in their honour. The demonstrators who achieved that goal this year got to present their stamp set to us at OnStage, and show us amazing projects they’d created with them. Which one is your favourite?

Treasures of Life – Gail Murray

Pretty Perennials – Deno Rekow

Hey Girlfriend – April Lopez

Happy Thoughts – Jackie Bolhuis

Two other highlights of the event were the amazing business presentation by social media strategist Brenda Ster, who gave us invaluable advice about how to define our social media presence in order to help our business reach the next level, and the delightful stamping session with Stampin’ Up! CEO Sara Douglass and her mother, Stampin Up! co-founder and Board Chair Shelli Gardner. It’s always fun to watch these two stamp and giggle together! At the end of their session, Sara and Shelli gave away one last prize, and they gave it to every demonstrator at the event: a 25 CSV product credit to be used on our next demonstrator order!

Here are some of the cards Sara and Shelli created, with the upcoming Fine Art Floral suite:

Can you spy the gilded leafing embellishment in the card above? It’s gorgeous!

As OnStage drew to a close, we got to learn where the next event would be held – and it’ll be a hop, skip, and a jump away from me! Provided that it is safe to travel by then, I’ll be so excited to attend OnStage Local next year in Vancouver, BC!

The final perk of attending OnStage is that while all demonstrators will be able to order from the upcoming January-June Mini Catalogue and Sale-a-Bration brochure starting in December, OnStage attendees get to place an order THIS WEEK from a select list of upcoming products. As always, the hardest part is deciding which products to choose! After reading through this post, what would YOU choose?

Thanks for reading about all the adventures I had during OnStage @Home! I’m really glad that Stampin’ Up! found a way to make this event happen despite the challenging circumstances – and in many ways, it was even more fun and accessible than an in-person event. I love being part of a company that invests in their demonstrators this way, making sure we have the training, networking, and recognition we need. If you’re interested in being part of my team – and part of the global Stampin’ Up! community – let’s talk! I’m always looking for new team members who want to work their own hours, have fun, meet new people, and craft their heart out!

Expert Guide to the Retiring List

Stampin’ Up!’s Retirement List is live, and in addition to the 2018-2020 In Colors (which I wrote about in a previous post) there are hundreds of products listed. How to sort through it all and make sure you get your favourites? Here are some tips to help you.

1. Every Designer Series Paper from the 2019 Annual Catalogue and 2020 Spring Mini Catalogue is retiring – they are only available while supplies last.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

2. Stamp sets are guaranteed until May 22, but retiring tools such as dies and punches are not, and some will go fast! Many of these (like the Starburst and Circle punches) are absolute staples for your craft room, so don’t miss out – get them before they’re gone!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

3. For the first time ever, Stampin’ Up! has chosen to continue the bundle pricing on six selected bundles from the Spring Mini Catalogue. These bundles will still be available in the new annual catalogue:

Heartfelt Bundle
So Sentimental Bundle
Painted Poppies Bundle
Peaceful Moments Bundle
Mountain Air Bundle
Timeless Tulips Bundle

For the rest of the bundles in the 2019 annual and Spring Mini catalogues, even if stamp sets and co-ordinating dies or punches are continuing, the discounted bundle price that saves you 10% will be gone after June 2nd. So for example, Forever Blossoms stamp set and co-ordinating Cherry Blossoms dies will both be available in the new catalogue, but you’ll see the Forever Blossoms bundle on the retiring list, because that bundle price will be gone. Below is a list of products that are continuing into the new catalogue, though the bundle price will be gone. Be strategic! If you know you’re going to buy these products anyway, you may as well get them this month before the price increases!

Grace’s Garden Bundle
Forever Blossoms Bundle
Last a Lifetime Bundle
Timeless Tropical Bundle
Under My Umbrella Bundle
By the Dock Bundle
Dressed to Impress Bundle
A Wish for Everything Bundle
Daisy Lane Bundle
Parcels & Petals Bundle
Good Morning Magnolia Bundle
A Little Lace Bundle
Path of Petals Bundle
Free as a Bird Bundle
Dino Days Bundle
Floral Essence Bundle
Band Together Bundle
Friend Like You Bundle
Bloom & Grow Bundle
Silhouette Scenes Bundle
To a Wild Rose Bundle
Sailing Home Bundle

Here’s a slideshow showing images of all the bundles listed above.

4. Then of course, there are the bundles that are FOR REAL retiring. These products are gone for good on June 2nd, and until then, they are “while supplies last”. So if there’s something on this list you must have? DON’T WAIT! Some items are already sold out!

Pretty Pavilion Bundle
Royal Peacock Bundle
Cuckoo For You Bundle
It Starts With Art Bundle
Ride With Me Bundle
Wish For It All Bundle
Above The Clouds Bundle
Wiggle Worm Bundle
Praiseworthy Prose Bundle
Lovely Is The Day Bundle
Tasteful Textures Bundle
Parisian Beauty Bundle
Beautifully Braided Bundle
Honey Bee Bundle
Bonanza Buddies Bundle
Birthday Jubilee Bundle
Clubhouse Bundle

Here’s a slideshow showing images of all the bundles listed above.

5. Stampin’ Blends are NOT RETIRING! You may have noticed that many Blends are listed on the Retirement List. This is because Stampin’ Up! has decided that Blends will only be sold in pairs from now on; no more singles available. They made this decision based on sales and ordering trends showing that customers prefer the combo pack, which includes one light and one dark Stampin’ Blends Marker. If you do a lot of colouring with your Blends, you may consider stocking up on the “lights” of your favourite colours; people tend to use the Lights about 70% more than the Darks. Single Stampin’ Blends Markers will be available until June 2nd or while supplies last. The Stampin’ Blends Color Lifter will be the only Stampin’ Blends Marker sold individually starting with the 2020–2021 Annual Catalogue.

Some more surprises ….

6. The Stamparatus is continuing, but Stampin’ Up! is discontinuing the sale of additional plates. If you want another pair of plates, get them now!

7. There is a new adhesive and refill in the new catalogue, which means it’s time to say goodbye to our beloved Snail adhesive. Both Snail and the refills are retiring and are only available while supplies last.

8. The Stamp Cleaning Pad and refill are retiring.

9. The Blue 3D Embossing Plate is being replaced by another plate that is exactly the same only not blue. If you have the blue plate already, don’t worry; it will work on the new die-cutting and embossing machine. If you don’t have the blue plate yet, don’t worry: there is a plate in the new catalogue that does the exact same thing.

10. The Hand-Lettered Prose dies are retiring. I bought these not too long ago and love them – I regret that I didn’t get a chance to demonstrate them at class before Covid came along and cancelled all my classes. If you like them too, don’t miss out!

View the full retirement list here. Don’t wait to get your favourites! The Clock is Ticking on These Retiring Items!

I just had to play with the 2018-2020 In Colors one more time. All these colours are retiring on June 2nd – and if supplies run out before then, they will not be restocked. If you love any of these colours (and why wouldn’t you?), don’t forget to get your inkpads, refills, markers, cardstock, and embellishments before they are gone!

These colours aren’t the only things retiring – you can view the full retirement list here. Don’t wait to get your favourites! And when you look at the retirement list, remember – even if stamp sets and co-ordinating dies or punches are continuing, the discounted bundle price that saves you 10% will be gone after June 2nd. So for example, Forever Blossoms stamp set and Cherry Blossoms dies will both be available in the new catalogue, but you’ll see the Forever Blossoms bundle on the retiring list, because that bundle price will be gone.

Here are some cards and projects I’ve made with some of the items on the retiring list:

Make and Take Projects from February Demo Meeting

Another demonstrator meeting means another collection of fun and beautiful Make and Take projects! I always enjoy the opportunity to get together with others who love stamping as much as I do. We have a great time sharing business ideas, seeking advice and feedback, and of course – stamping and creating together. Thanks so much to the wonderful demonstrators who shared their time, energy, and ideas with us at this recent meeting!

All of the projects are made using products from the new Spring Mini and/or Sale-a-Bration catalogues. I’ve labeled the photos with the main products used, and I’ve added a shopping list below so you can get any of the supplies you need to recreate whichever project(s) you fall in love with!

Barb showed us how to create an awesome little treat box using only one piece of cardstock and very little cutting. I’ll be recreating this project for sure – watch for it in an upcoming blog post!

Bruni combined the Heartfelt Bundle with the Thoughtful Blooms stamp set – a terrific combination. Extra terrific because if you buy the Heartfelt Bundle before March 31st, you’ll qualify for a free Level One Sale-a-Bration reward …. such as the Thoughtful Blooms stamp set! This was also the first time I worked with Merry Merlot ink, and I LOVE it! Can’t wait to play more with this beautiful colour!

Susan showed us how to create a beautiful birthday card using the Morning Star stamp set and the gorgeous Stitched Stars. The green floral images on the star above are all one stamp … the stamp is shaped to fit perfectly on the star!!

I loved learning how to do a scalloped tag topper closure card, courtesy of Laurel. Watch for an upcoming video on how to create this fun and unique fold!

I was also grateful to Carolyn for showing us how to use Blends to colour white embossing powder and ribbon, so that we can customize the colour of our project! Brilliant!

Lynne showed us how to make this adorable treat box with sweet little faceted gems to decorate! I love the heart-shaped opening!

I received this charming little notepad and pen from fellow demonstrator Susan. What a sweet gift – I just had to share it with you all!

The opportunity to learn from and connect with other demonstrators is so valuable to me. If you’re thinking of joining, this is the perfect time of year to do so – not only will you get your fully-customizable Starter Kit with $165 in product for only $135, but you will also receive a mini paper trimmer, a sample pack of beautiful Designer Series Paper, and a stamp set of your choice, all absolutely FREE! I’m always looking for new members to join my team, so if you’d like to know more about how to work your own hours, have fun, meet new people, and craft your heart out, let me know! Then we can attend the next demonstrator meeting together!

Demo Meeting Make and Take Projects

I wrote a few weeks ago about the beautiful swap cards I received at the recent demonstrator meeting in Victoria. Here are the terrific Make and Take projects I got to create at that same meeting! All of the projects are made using products from the new Spring Mini and/or Sale-a-Bration catalogues. I’ve labeled the photos with the main products used, and I’ve added a shopping list below so you can get any of the supplies you need to recreate whichever project(s) you fall in love with!

Make and Take projects don’t have to be cards! Lynne showed us how to make this wonderful lip balm holder using Bird Ballad Designer Series Paper. Perfect for gift-giving and craft fairs!

Bonny showed us how to make this adorable treat holder, which holds two chocolate hearts! What a sweet treat for a friend or loved one!

Crystal showed us how to make this beautiful pocket card featuring the Lovely Lily Pad stamp set and Lily Pad dies. These two products can be earned free with your qualifying purchase during Sale-a-Bration!

The Gang’s All Meer stamp set (another free Sale-a-Bration item) is one of the biggest hits this season. Above, we learned how to sponge a background for our adorable critters; below, Adrienne showed up the wonder of how to stamp four stamps at once with the Stamparatus!

This fun flip card by Jody is one I’ll be CASE’ing for sure – and I love the non-traditional Valentine’s colour!

MiRan must have read my mind when she decided to make this easel calendar using the Follow Your Art suite … I’ve been longing for a teeny calendar in my craft room, and now I have one!

I was already pretty enamoured with the adorable animals in the Birthday Bonanza suite, and creating this sweet little tag sealed the deal! They are on my wish list for sure!

The opportunity to learn from and connect with other demonstrators is so valuable to me. If you’re thinking of joining, this is the perfect time of year to do so – not only will you get your fully-customizable Starter Kit with $165 in product for only $135, but you will also receive a mini paper trimmer, a sample pack of beautiful Designer Series Paper, and a stamp set of your choice – all absolutely FREE! I’m always looking for new members to join my team, so if you’d like to know more about how to work your own hours, have fun, meet new people, and craft your heart out, let me know! As You See It Challenge: Love!

This week I’m participating in a new-to-me crafting blog hop, the “As You See It” Challenge. These weekly challenges are meant to inspire creativity and encourage participants to interpret the theme as they wish. Anyone is welcome to participate!

This week’s theme is LOVE! I decided to showcase the card I made for a recent swap, and tell you a little more about it. All the products I used are from the Parisian Beauty Suite in the Stampin’ Up! Spring Mini Catalogue.

With this card, I tried to create the look of the flowers having been pressed in a book, along with other souvenirs that are linked with the love story. The strip of Parisian Blossoms Designer Series Paper, covered in words of love and passion, is like a love letter, while the cardstock, stamped with postage images from the Parisian Beauty stamp set, reminds us of the envelope that the love letter arrived in.

I used the gorgeous Parisian Flourish 3D embossing folder on the black layer to add texture. The flowers are from the Forever Blossoms stamp set, cut out with the Cherry Blossoms dies, and coloured with Blends markers. I added some Champagne Rhinestones to embellish both the sentiment and one of the flowers.

I hope you enjoyed my project! Don’t forget to click on the image below so you can visit the other blogs and see their love-themed projects. If you like my project, you can see the products I used in the shopping list at the bottom of the post.

If you’re interested in playing along next time, visit the Facebook page or the blog for the As You See It Challenge and get inspired!

Happy Stampin’!

Seashore Blog Hop: Valentine’s Day

I don’t know about you, but from my neighbourhood in South Nanaimo, I can see a winter wonderland as I type this blog post! Schools, including the university where I work, have been shut down for the last few days as the roads have been unsafe; however, it looks like we’re past the worst of it now (knock on wood) and we’ll soon be back to school/work/business as usual.

Having a few extra days at home was just fine by me, as I got to spend some time in my craft room designing cards for upcoming events and classes. Years ago, before I became a papercrafter, cross-stitch and embroidery were my crafts of choice, so I was excited to see photos online of people using the beautiful heart doilies to create string art. I just had to try it for myself!

It is really quite easy to do (even, I think, if you are not an experienced needleworker) and using the metallic thread creates a stunning effect. The fact that the doily already has all the holes there for you to work with definitely makes this easier! In fact, the only reason I opted not to teach this card at a class is that I don’t have enough needles for everyone.

I finished the card with rhinestones and Real Red ribbon, along with a stamp from the Meant to Be stamp set. I like how simple yet striking this design is!

I’ve put the shopping list for the card below – it’s a short list as you really don’t need much to create this card! I hope you enjoyed my project and that you have a wonderful Valentine’s Day.
