Tutorial: Two Great Ways to Use Your Scraps
Recently I was running low on birthday cards and decided to use up the last bits of my Bright and Beautiful Designer Series Paper to restock my stash. I ended up using two basic designs that are terrific for using up your scraps, and I wanted to share them with you!
The measurements for this card are:
Cardbase: 8 ½ x 5 ½”, scored in the centre
Contrasting cardstock mat: 4 x 5 ¼”
Designer Series Paper:
7/8 x 3 7/8” (three pieces)
2 ½ x 3 7/8”
I started by cutting all my DSP into the sizes above, then mixing and matching to see what patterns I liked together.
After you attach the DSP to the mat layer, wrap a ribbon around and tie a knot in the front before attaching to the cardbase. Don’t forget to add some bling at the end!
After that, I didn’t have too many big scraps left … so I changed gears for the next set of cards!
The measurements for this card are:
Cardbase: 8 ½ x 5 ½”, scored in the centre
Contrasting cardstock mat: 4 x 5 ¼”
Designer Series Paper:
2 x 3″ (two pieces)
DSP mats: 1 ¾ x 2 ¾” (two pieces)
For this second set of cards, I embossed the mat layer to add some texture, then attached the two matted DSP pieces before adding a ribbon and some bling.
To finish these cards, I used the layered “Happy Birthday” dies from “Wanted to Say“. Because there are so many fun and bright colours in this DSP, once again I mixed-and-matched lots of different colours for those sentiments! I used adhesive sheets on the skinny words to make them easy to attach – the larger words are just the right size for mini Dimensionals.
As you can see, I really made those scraps work for me, and ended up with about a dozen cards in total! Not only am I ready for next month’s birthday cards, but I also had a lovely time creating in my craft room! 😊
If you, too, have some Designer Series Paper to use up, I hope you’ll come join me on Sunday, February 18th for a delightfully low-key, self-paced day of crafting! I’ve rented a large venue with giant tables, so you’ll have lots of room to spread out and use up the beautiful DSP you’ve been hoarding 😉 Get all the info and sign up here – but don’t wait, registration closes on February 4th!
Happy Stampin’!
