Last weekend I got to attend another meeting of the Vancouver Island Stampin’ Up! demonstrators group. Again, it was a super fun and informative day! We were warmly welcomed by the event organizers, who right away introduced us to an icebreaker game by taping the name of a Stampin’ Up! product to each attendee’s back – we had to guess what it was by asking Yes or No questions of those around us. We also got to listen to some terrific business presentations, including one that I particularly enjoyed about social media. It’s always fascinating to find out how different demonstrators run their businesses! The Make and Take project was absolutely GORGEOUS – I’ll share that with you next week – and of course, there were swap cards galore! The theme for this swap was “My Favourite Layout”, which was an irresistible one for me, as I love learning new layouts. As I expected, there are several here that I’m excited to try out myself!

As always, I’ve labeled the photos with the main products used and the names of the makers – except for cards which weren’t labeled when I received them, so I don’t know who made them!

The demonstrators I met at this event were warm, welcoming, and supportive and I can’t wait to see them again at our next get-together. If you’d like to join in at events like this, join my team and we can go to the next meeting together! Being a demonstrator is awesome – you get to work your own hours, have fun, meet new people, and craft your heart out. If you’re interested or have questions, let me know!

I love this beautiful bridge card by Barb Hogg and am totally convinced to try this fold myself. It’s so cool-looking, and yes, it folds flat! It probably doesn’t hurt that she used one of my favourite Designer Series Papers, as well. I’m sure gonna miss “Share What You Love“!

My friend Carolyn used two different techniques, Polished Stone and Watercolour Smooching, to create these shimmery effects. She told me that they both require glossy paper to achieve, and since glossy paper is retiring at the end of May, now’s the time to learn these techniques!

All the demonstrators who went to OnStage last month received the beautiful Daisy Lane stamp set, which will be available to purchase July 4th. It looks great with the lovely Gingham Gala paper, the Daisy punch, and a fancy z-fold. This card arrived without a name, so I don’t know who made it, but I sure love the design!

I love what Dianne did here with the Delightfully Detailed laser-cut DSP. The sentiment is from the stamp set “Humming Along“. What a stunning card!

Erica did an amazing job with this card, showcasing the gorgeous new Perennial Essence suite, which will be available in the new catalogue starting June 4th. This is a great layout which I’ve used before myself!

Another anonymous card, and it’s too bad, because I’d love to give credit to whomever created this beautiful z-fold card with the Painted Harvest stamp set. Great layout, and great use of one of the retiring In Colors, Berry Burst!

I love this cut-card-front layout by Jean Myers, starring the new Mosaic Mood specialty DSP and a sentiment stamp from Free as a Bird. This gorgeous paper and the stamp set will be available June 4th.

Here’s my contribution to the swap – a centre step card featuring the Follow Your Art suite. I love this layout because it’s a terrific way to show off beautiful DSP without needing to use a lot of your stash to make a huge impact. This charming new suite will be available June 4th.

Marie Claire made this lovely card featuring the Well Said bundle and Tropical Chic. Lovely simple and effective layout – this one would be easy to mass-produce!

I loved this card before I opened it, but when I discovered the surprise fun fold, I loved it even more! It even features a bundle I’m ordering this month, Varied Vases. This is a great bundle to help you create beautiful cards for a variety of occasions right away. It’s on my order this month!

This gorgeous card has convinced me to try this layout for myself in the near future. It features the Bird Ballad suite, available June 4th. Beautiful!

Which one of these layouts is your favourite? Drop me a comment below and let me know!

As I promised last week, I want to show you all the cards I received from OnStage in Vancouver. I didn’t participate in any organized swaps, just floor swaps with the two designs I’d created (read more about them here). I was a little nervous that people wouldn’t like my swaps, but not a single person refused to swap with me, and many gave me kind comments and encouragement 🙂 Turns out that most of us Stampin’ Up! demonstrators are pretty terrific people! 😀

So, here are all the swaps I received.  I’ve labeled the photos with the main products used and the names of the makers – although for several of the cards, they were not labeled when I received them, so I don’t know who made them!

The demonstrators I met at this event were warm, welcoming, and supportive and I can’t wait till the next get-together. If you’d like to join in at events like this, join my team and we can go to the next event together! And hurry, because some of these products are retiring soon and are only available while supplies last! On the weekend I had the most amazing day attending a meeting with the Vancouver Island Stampin’ Up! demonstrators group. We listened to some business presentations, did a HUGE number of Make and Take projects, enjoyed a delicious potluck lunch, and even received some door prizes (I won a stamp set!). And of course no demonstrator get-together is complete without swaps! I participated in only one of the three swaps available, and came home with 16 beautiful and unique cards. I had to share them with you right away! Most of the products used are from the Occasions catalogue, though you will also see some annual and Sale-a-Bration products. I’ve labeled the photos with the main products used and the names of the makers – except for two of the cards, which were not labeled when I received them, so I don’t know who made them!

If you follow any other demonstrators on social media, you may have seen lots of fun posts in November about OnStage Orlando, where over 8,000 demonstrators gathered from all over North America to celebrate Stampin’ Up!’s 30th anniversary.

I chose not to attend that event, but the next convention is around the corner – and just across the water! OnStage Local in April 2019 will be held in Vancouver, and I’m going to be there, along with my team. And I want you to join us!

OnStage is an amazing opportunity to meet and connect with other demonstrators, and learn directly from Stampin’ Up! leaders. As an OnStage attendee, you will …

– Get exciting product news before anyone else
– Be the first to have the new catalogue in your hands
– Gain access to an exclusive pre-order, before demos who don’t attend
– Watch product demonstrations and try new products yourself via make-n-takes
– Receive free products in your swag bag
– Meet other enthusiastic demonstrators
– Attend educational presentations to support your business
– Swap cards/projects with other attendees

Want to join us? Sale-a-Bration starts TODAY, and that’s the perfect time to become a demonstrator. During Sale-a-Bration, you’ll have two Starter Kit options to choose from!

Option 1:
$225 worth of Stampin’ Up! products for $135

Option 2:
$225 worth of Stampin’ Up! products PLUS the exclusive Craft & Carry Tote (retail value $68) for $175!

For both options, you will get free shipping and a business starter pack (order forms, catalogues, etc.) Best of all, you’ll get to choose what products go into your Starter Kit – inkpads, cardstock, stamp sets, paper, blends, whatever your heart desires. Right away, you’ll be paying less for your products, and as a demonstrator you’ll have access to terrific online and print resources to help you build your business your way. And as your team leader, I’ll be doing what I can to support you as you go!

If you’re interested in this opportunity and want to know more, let’s chat! I’m excited to welcome new members to the Stampin’ Up! family!

What’s in the Starter Kit?

What are the perks of being a demonstrator?
As mentioned above, you’ll get a 20% discount right away, and you can earn a 25% discount when your sales reach a certain target. In addition, you can …
– See catalogues and promotions before anyone else
– Order new products before they’re released to the public

And speaking of awesome in-person events …. did you hear that the next Stampin’ Up! convention (OnStage Local) is being held in Vancouver, BC? My team is going, hope you will join us!

What’s it like being on your team?
I love to promote a fun, supportive atmosphere with my team. I believe in celebrating milestones, learning together, and helping each other whenever possible. But don’t take my word for it … here’s what some of my teammates have to say:

We hold team meetings approximately every second month, where we get together to share our successes, find answers to our questions, and strategize about the upcoming months. I’m also available via text, email, and messenger when questions pop up in between meetings, and we have a closed Facebook group for our team, where I share files and information.

Do I have to sell the products to friends/family?
No, selling is not mandatory. In order to maintain your demonstratorship, there is a quarterly minimum of 300 CSV (more on that term below). That’s about $100/month. Many people are able to spend enough to maintain their demonstratorship without selling to anyone else – they call themselves “hobby demos”. If you do choose to sell, the 20-25% commission you earn on customer purchases will handily support your crafting habits – and you can meet your minimum with 1-2 workshops per quarter.

What if I decide I don’t like being a demonstrator?
No harm done! I encourage anyone who might be interested to buy the starter kit, hold a class or two (with my help, if you like), and see what you think. By the time you’ve reached the end of your first three months, you’ll know whether you want to keep going. If not, enjoy all the wonderful discounted products you purchased – there is no need to return anything, or pay any additional fees to Stampin’ Up!.

I’m part of your monthly Stampers’ Club. What happens if I become a demonstrator?
If you join my team as a demonstrator, you’ll still need to finish out the year in the monthly hostess club – however, I will honour your discount on all your club purchases, so your monthly purchase commitment will decrease 🙂 I have one team member who continues to participate in my club, for a fun social evening as well as crafty inspiration! Another option is to “buy” your remaining months in the club. The monthly commitment is $20, so you would make a one-time payment to me of $16 ($20 less your 20% discount) multiplied by the number of months you have left in the club.

What does CSV mean?
CSV is the system that Stampin’ Up !uses to convert retail price to local currency. This allows them to say that all demonstrators – no matter what country they are in – must reach the quarterly minimum of 300 CSV.

“Whenever sales are mentioned in the Compensation Plan, they won’t be shown in local currency. In order to make our compensation plan applicable to all markets, regardless of currency, we use a common measurement: commissionable sales volume or CSV. CSV is a measurement unit by which sales are tracked. Our ordering systems and reports convert your local currency to CSV automatically.”

So your minimum quarterly target is not $300 CAD; it’s 300 CSV.

The CSV conversion amounts are assessed once a year based on the global currency rates and may shift up or down slightly; right now, 300 CSV = $394.50.

If you order $394.50 in product, the amount you pay will change slightly:
$394.50 retail
+ $39.45 shipping
+ $40.24 tax
– $78.90 discount
= $395.29 total due.

Stampin’ Rewards come into play as well. In this example, you would earn $47.34 in free product. And as an additional perk, there are no shipping costs on Stampin’ Rewards! So once you choose your free product, you’ve got $440 worth of product for a $375 price tag (including shipping and tax). And this is all based on the scenario of making the entire order yourself without any friends or customers contributing. If you decide to hold classes, even small classes every few months – or merely have a few select friends get together for an informal crafting night and share an order – you can easily make your minimums and start to make a profit as well! Any order above $200 would earn free rewards, and any order above $550 would earn you a half-price product.

When is the best time to join?
Sale-a-Bration (January through March) is always a great time to join, as there will be a fantastic “signing bonus” available to new demonstrators. This year, new demonstrators will receive an additional $60 in free product of their choice when they join – a total of $225 in products for only $135. Additionally, you can choose to include the exclusive Craft and Carry Tote (retail value $68) for $40. This amazingly versatile tote is exclusively available to new demonstrators until March 31st!

Another great time to join is anytime YOU are the party hostess – whether through a party you plan and host yourself, or when it’s your hostess month in the monthly club. Every dollar in party sales increases your hostess rewards, and you can use those rewards to pay for your Starter Kit – so you could get your kit for even less than $135!

Who should join?
In all honesty – I truly think that anyone who enjoys using Stampin’ Up! products and has $135 to spend should take the opportunity to become a demonstrator. There is no downside – you get an awesome discount and other perks right away, and if you decide it’s not for you, you still get to keep and enjoy all the fabulous products you bought!

I want to understand ALL the nitty-gritty details before joining. Show me the fine print!
No problem! Here’s the Compensation Plan Overview.

After a long summer break, my team planned to get together in mid-September to re-connect, discuss holiday catalogue strategies, and try out the new Take Your Pick tool. (It’s awesome!) September is a tough month to schedule, as everyone has so many new routines starting up again, so there were only two of us who managed to meet in person, but fun was had nonetheless!

The swap card theme this month was to use a product that was new in either the annual catalogue or the holiday catalogue. Our new teammate, Vikki, who lives about a two-hour drive away from the rest of us, sent her swap cards by mail, and I’m so glad she did because they were stunning. Just look at how many layers are on this gorgeous, full-size card!

swap2

Vikki used one of the images from the fantastically versatile set Lovely as a Tree for her focal image, and the Starlight thinlits dies to make the beautiful glimmer paper star to embellish. And of course, the Softly Falling embossing folder makes a perfect background for your holiday cards and projects.

She even decorated the inside!

swap4

Having a non-local team member is new to me, and I’m doing my best to make sure Vikki feels as included and connected as my local teammates do. Thank goodness for technology like FaceTime, Skype, and Messenger to help us connect quickly and share ideas!

Claire brought these beautiful decorated pillow boxes. These boxes are available in the annual catalogue in a set of ten, and are ready to assemble and decorate to your taste. Claire did an amazing job, using Petal Promenade paper, the Sweet Storybook bundle, and the Detailed Trio punch. Turns out the package is the perfect size (5 x 3″) to hold a yummy Kashi granola bar – what a perfect treat!

swap3

For my swap card, I used the Share What You Love suite, one of my two favourite suites from the annual catalogue. I started with the Lovely Floral embossing folder as my focal point, sponged with white ink to highlight the embossed image, then added stamped images from the Love What You Do stamp set.

swap1

One of my team members recently promoted to Silver, and I have a special gift to give her as a congratulations – but she wasn’t able to attend the meeting, so I’ll have to wait to share that with you another time! I’m so proud of her for reaching this goal at the same time as she and her partner plan a wedding, buy a house, and adopt a new dog into their family! She gets more done in a day than most people do in a week – what a champ!

I’m always looking for new members to join my team! If you’d like to know more about how to work your own hours, have fun, meet new people, and craft your heart out, let me know!
