Another meeting of the Vancouver Island Stampin’ Up! demonstrators group, another awesome collection of swap cards! In case you missed it, I shared all the make and take projects last week.

This time around we got to make and exchange Christmas cards. This year’s holiday catalogue is packed full of awesome goodies, and many of them are on display with today’s swap cards. As always, I’ve labeled the photos with the main products used and the names of the makers – except for cards which weren’t labeled when I received them, so I don’t know who made them!

Did you spot the Cup of Christmas bundle in the holiday catalogue? One of the awesome things about it is that it features reversible stamps! One side of the stamp creates the polka-dot image as shown above, and the other side stamps a striped mug. How fun is that?! Great collection of holiday sentiments with this stamp set as well! I love that Adrienne has finished the card with some gold foil pieces to pick up the gold foil accents on the Wrapped in Plaid paper.

The first of several cards in today’s collection to feature puff paint, a fun new embellishment available in the holiday catalogue, Bonny’s card also features …. no stamping! That’s right, the Santa shape, trees, and even the sentiment are all die cuts. I love that she has used a combination of foil (for Santa and his sleigh) and glimmer paper (sentiment + snowy hill) to create a card with a lot of sparkle, and of course the snow on the trees is a great touch!

Carolyn did a terrific job creating this fun card featuring the Perfectly Plaid suite. The gold foil shapes add a touch of bling to the layout, as does the gold shimmer paint on the tag, which was embossed with the Swirls and Curls folder. And if you look carefully, you’ll see that the red background was also embossed with the Subtle folder – it adds such a great texture to the project!

This card by Crystal was the subject of much discussion at the meeting. How DID she create that fabulous background? Is it DSP? Is it the Birch stamp? Well, Crystal shared with us the how-to: she used her Stamparatus and, yes, the Birch background stamp. She stamped first with white craft ink, let it dry completely, then moved her cardstock 1/16″ down to stamp with Gray Granite ink. The result has so much realism and dimension!

Dianne’s card features several different products: the Christmas Gleaming bundle and Brightly Gleaming paper to make the ornaments, the #Elfie stamp set and blends to create the charming elf, and a die from Stitched Labels on which she stamped the sentiment. And, she used the ever-popular Subtle embossing folder to add texture in the background!

I love Erica’s colour choices here with this adorable little bird from Birds of a Feather stamp set! The stamp set also includes adorable birds to celebrate Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Valentine’s Day. Check it out on page 50 of your holiday catalogue!

This simple yet striking card by Jean is one of my favourites. Do you see how she scored borders around the outside of the card? What a terrific way to add interest!

Remember I told you that the Hammered Metal embossing folder was awesome? Well, here it is – was I right or what?! Madeleine has also used the Stitched Star dies to create that stunning star with gold foil. No wonder this card won first place!

MC’s charming card features the Holly Jolly bundle with this adorable hand-coloured Santa. How sweet!

I’ve had so many people ask me lately about making shaker cards, and now – Stampin’ Up! has made it easy, with the Snow Globe shaker domes! The stamp set provides beautiful wintery imagery, the co-ordinating dies cut them out, then the acetate domes encase the whole scene. You can add glitter or sequins to complete the effect. Simply stunning!

Another terrific card featuring the Christmas Gleaming suite, including the foil elements and the Hammered Metal embossing folder. Stunner of a card!

I love the way this creator (left anonymous as there was no name on the card) used puff paint on the In The Woods die to create this undeniably Christmasy tree, backed by the Wrapped in Plaid paper and a gorgeous gold-and-green ribbon. In The Woods can be found in your annual catalogue, while the rest of the products are in the holiday catalogue.

And of course you already saw the swap card that I made:

On the weekend I attended another fun and busy meeting of the Vancouver Island Stampin’ Up! demonstrators, and once again it was a delightful day full of crafts, friends, and learning. I participated in a Christmas card swap (stay tuned to see the beautiful cards I received!), and as usual there were several make-and-take projects – in fact, I even stepped out of my comfort zone to provide one of the projects myself! It was a little nerve-wracking to present in front of experienced demonstrators, but everyone made me feel very welcome, and my project was very well-received. Here it is (if you watched my most recent video, it may look familiar!).

This project uses items from my very favourite suite in the new holiday catalogue, “Christmas Gleaming”. The Designer Series paper is absolutely gorgeous, featuring copper foil accents on every sheet, and I love that the bundle comes with not one but TWO fantastic co-ordinating punches to cut out those ornaments! This bundle makes it so easy to create simple yet stunning cards, perfect for mass production!

And here are the other make-and-take projects I got to make at the meeting!

If you’ve been using Stampin’ Up! for a while, you may remember the now-retired Curvy Keepsakes die. This new Tiny Keepsakes die is the same style, but tinier – a huge advantage, since it now cuts an entire box from one piece of 6×6″ DSP. You can just imagine all the awesome creations to be made with this charming die! This project was created by Barb Tripps, who also chose the Feels Like Frost DSP – one of my favourites. Every piece of this paper features gorgeous photographic images on one side, and stunning silver foil designs on the other side. Pretty sure I’m going to need to order two packs of this, so I don’t need to choose between these two gorgeous sides!

Karen from Parksville walked us through how to do some amazing heat-embossing, waterwash painting, and other inking and colouring techniques for this card. I think mine turned out pretty well for a first try, and I’m excited to practice these techniques more!

Miran Briggs always seems to have an awesome 3D gift item for her make and take. I love this adorable little post-it note holder using the Follow Your Art Designer Series Paper!

The Perennial Essence DSP is one of the most popular in the catalogue, and this pocket card by Lynne Williams shows it off beautifully. To finish the flower, I coloured a pearl with my Blackberry Bliss Blends marker.

Sue Philip created this awesome accordion-fold pop-up card starring the new Snowman Season bundle. The snowman stamps and builder punch are just too cute, and I’m in love with the colour combination of Coastal Cabana and Real Red on the Let it Snow Designer Series Paper!

Which one of these cards is your favourite? Drop me a comment below and let me know!

What’s it like being on your team?
I love to promote a fun, supportive atmosphere with my team. I believe in celebrating milestones, learning together, and helping each other whenever possible. But don’t take my word for it … here’s what some of my teammates have to say:

We hold team meetings approximately every quarter, where we get together to share our successes, find answers to our questions, and strategize about the upcoming months. I’m also available via text, email, and messenger when questions pop up in between meetings, and we have a closed Facebook group for our team, where I share files and information.

Do I have to sell the products to friends/family?
No, selling is not mandatory. In order to maintain your demonstratorship, there is a quarterly minimum of 300 CSV (more on that term below). That’s about $100/month. Many people are able to spend enough to maintain their demonstratorship without selling to anyone else – they call themselves “hobby demos”. If you do choose to sell, the 20-25% commission you earn on customer purchases will handily support your crafting habits – and you can meet your required minimum with 1-2 workshops per quarter.

What if I decide I don’t like being a demonstrator?
No harm done! I encourage anyone who might be interested to buy the starter kit, hold a class or two (with my help, if you like), and see what you think. By the time you’ve reached the end of your first three months, you’ll know whether you want to keep going. If not, enjoy all the wonderful discounted products you purchased – there is no need to return anything, or pay any additional fees to Stampin’ Up!.

team photo

I’m part of your monthly Stampers’ Club. What happens if I become a demonstrator?
If you join my team as a demonstrator, you’ll still need to finish out the year in the monthly hostess club – however, I will honour your discount on all your club purchases, so your monthly purchase commitment will decrease 🙂 I have one team member who continues to participate in my club, for a fun social evening as well as crafty inspiration! Another option is to “buy” your remaining months in the club. The monthly commitment is $20, so you would make a one-time payment to me of $16 ($20 less your 20% discount) multiplied by the number of months you have left in the club.

What does CSV mean?
CSV is the system that Stampin’ Up ! uses to convert retail price to local currency. This allows them to say that all demonstrators – no matter what country they are in – must reach the quarterly minimum of 300 CSV.

“Whenever sales are mentioned in the Compensation Plan, they won’t be shown in local currency. In order to make our compensation plan applicable to all markets, regardless of currency, we use a common measurement: commissionable sales volume or CSV. CSV is a measurement unit by which sales are tracked. Our ordering systems and reports convert your local currency to CSV automatically.”

So your minimum quarterly target is not $300 CAD; it’s 300 CSV.

The CSV conversion amounts are assessed once a year based on the global currency rates and may shift up or down slightly; right now, 300 CSV = $394.50.

If you order $394.50 in product, the amount you pay will change slightly:
$394.50 retail
+ $39.45 shipping
+ $40.24 tax
– $78.90 discount
= $395.29 total due.

Stampin’ Rewards come into play as well. In this example, you would earn $47.34 in free product. And as an additional perk, there are no shipping costs on Stampin’ Rewards! So once you choose your free product, you’ve got $440 worth of product for a $375 price tag (including shipping and tax). And this is all based on the scenario of making the entire order yourself without any friends or customers contributing. If you decide to hold classes, even small classes every few months – or merely have a few select friends get together for an informal crafting night and share an order – you can easily make your minimums and start to make a profit as well! Any order above $200 would earn free rewards, and any order above $550 would earn you a half-price product.

When is the best time to join?
Before August 31st to take advantage of this awesome Extra, Extra promotion! Joining any other time is still a terrific deal, but this offer really takes it to the next level!

Another great time to join is anytime YOU are the party hostess – whether through a party you plan and host yourself, or when it’s your hostess month in the monthly club. Every dollar in party sales increases your hostess rewards, and you can use those rewards to pay for your Starter Kit – so you could get your kit for even less than $135!

Who should join?
In all honesty – I truly think that anyone who enjoys using Stampin’ Up! products and has $135 to spend should take the opportunity to become a demonstrator. There is no downside – you get an awesome discount and other perks right away, and if you decide it’s not for you, you still get to keep and enjoy all the fabulous products you bought!

I want to understand ALL the nitty-gritty details before joining. Show me the fine print!
No problem! Here’s the Compensation Plan Overview.

Another meeting of the Vancouver Island Stampin’ Up! demonstrators group, another awesome collection of swap cards!

The theme for this swap was “New Catalogue Products”, which I am so excited about, because it means I can give you a sneak peek of these awesome new products, and get inspired by others’ creativity. There are so many ideas here that I can’t wait to try out for myself!

As always, I’ve labeled the photos with the main products used and the names of the makers – except for cards which weren’t labeled when I received them, so I don’t know who made them!

Don’t you just love this beautiful new designer series paper Adrienne used? It’s called Perennial Essence and it’s clearly inspired by the art of Monet. When you look at the paper in person, you can actually see the brush strokes! It’s just stunning. I also love the sentiments in the co-ordinating stamp set (Floral Essence), including this one: “All days are beautiful that begin with you.”

Ann really outdid herself with this amazing creation starring the new Follow Your Art suite, with a few extra stamps used from “Crafting Forever“. What an awesome project – and yes, the whole box folds flat for mailing!

Good Morning Magnolia is an awesome new stamp set, and I love that Barb chose to use some different colours here! Great colouring with the Blends, and the Country Floral embossing folder for the layer behind is the perfect accent to set off the flower.

I love the colours Bruni chose for her First Frost card – lovely card for a spring wedding!

I love the Birch background stamp Elke used here – just look at the awesome texture it adds to this card! The Daisy Lane stamp set is one of my top picks from the new catalogue, as well – the large daisy stamp co-ordinates with the pre-existing Daisy Punch, and there is a new smaller daisy and a new co-ordinating punch!

I love the simple stamping layout of Joanne’s Daisy Lane card. See the subtle sponged colour she added at the top left? Beautiful!

Laurel’s fancy-fold card uses Good Morning Magnolia and the Stitched Rectangles. Absolutely stunning!

This gorgeous Mosaic Mood DSP is so rich and detailed, you don’t need much else on your card. Works perfectly for this simple layout!

The Sailing Home suite is a new favourite of mine, and ideal for masculine cards of all kinds. Don’t you love the detail on the stamps, and the sweet sentiment “You are my true north”? Those silver trinkets are so terrific as well!

Another Mosaic card, this one by Carolyn. Carolyn notes that you can really “let the DSP do the talking”, and she has done a great job of that with this card! She also used a layer embossed with the Subtle embossing folder, which provides a perfect balance for the colourful details of the DSP.

Susan also used Mosaic Mood, with a cool fun fold! That sentiment “True friendship is one of God’s greatest gifts” is from “To a Wild Rose”, a new Distinktive stamp set.

I love the bright colours and fun images on this Pop of Petals card! Great card to share at a class, as everyone can make it their own.

Mi Ran used the Stitched Rectangles and vellum cardstock to create an Etch-a-Sketch card! Isn’t that fun?

Here’s my card, using the Sailing Home suite and a folded-corner design. I used the Take Your Pick tool to tease out the ends of the twine and make it look like frayed rope.

I love this layout by Erica! What a great way to show off our beautiful Designer Series Paper, in this case “Garden Lane”.

Dianne’s beautiful card uses the Perennial Essence paper, as well as the Floral Essence stamp set and co-ordinating punch. The stamp and punch create a three-petaled flower that you can layer together! I love how she used the Petal Pink vellum cardstock and organdy striped ribbon to embellish her project!

Which one of these cards is your favourite? Drop me a comment below and let me know!

The demonstrators I met at this event were warm, welcoming, and supportive and I can’t wait to see them again at our next get-together. If you’d like to join in at events like this, join my team and we can go to the next meeting together! Being a demonstrator is awesome – you get to work your own hours, have fun, meet new people, and craft your heart out. If you’re interested or have questions, let me know!

For April’s workshops, in preparation for Mother’s Day, my attendees got to make three feminine cards. Of course, these cards are good for more than just Mother’s Day: they’re great for birthdays, thank yous, and other occasions – even weddings! Here are the three designs we got to make together last month.

I sure do love this stunning Beauty Abounds stamp set. Aren’t those textured bubbles just exquisite? I love the effects they create. You might recognize that this card is a CASE from a design by Susan Easter, which I received at a recent demonstrators’ meeting. I loved her card so much I had to get the stamp set and try it myself! I chose to use Coastal Cabana and Soft Seafoam for the colours, and I used Strong and Beautiful for the sentiments.

Tip: Don’t worry about the stamped flowers overlapping in the middle of your card front; it’ll be covered by the circles. Also, you can punch out the 2 1/4″ circle from the centre of your Coastal Cabana cardstock mat piece – it’ll be covered by the white layer!

I had to feature this beautiful bundle in a workshop. I’m always on the lookout for big bold sentiments that make cardmaking easy, and the new stitched rectangle framelits are so terrific! I also added a few die-cut shapes from the Be Mine stitched framelits, as shown in the photo below. See how I used the scalloped edge thinlit to create a cool border on the Melon Mambo cardstock?

Tip: Wondering how I came up with this great colour combo of Tempting Turquoise, Melon Mambo, and Gorgeous Grape? I started with two of the main colours in How Sweet It Is DSP, because using your DSP as a starting point for colour combination is a great way to avoid guesswork. Then, because I didn’t quite have the right colours on hand, I used one of my favourite websites, My Create Ink Color Lab, to be sure that Tempting Turquoise would look good with the other colours I’d chosen.

I saw this design online somewhere and was so impressed with the clever use of Swirly Frames to create a …. well, a framework for the floral wreath. Brilliant! The great thing about Beautiful Bouquet stamp set is that it comes with LOADS of lovely sentiment stamps, so you can turn this into any kind of card you want: wedding, birthday, thank you, thinking of you, etcetera. And of course, you can make your floral wreath in any style and colours you want.

Tip: Start by stamping the circle frame, then add your sentiment. Stamp the largest flowers first, and then fill in the spaces with the smaller ones.

If these projects have inspired you, remember you can shop 24/7 at my online store. And if you’d like to attend a workshop, check out my events page! My workshops are almost done for the year – I’ll be holding two more in June and then taking a break for the summer. Of course, if you’d like to host your own in-home party and make a card or two with some friends, I can definitely help with that too! Drop me a line and we’ll plan a date!

Last weekend I got to attend another meeting of the Vancouver Island Stampin’ Up! demonstrators group. Again, it was a super fun and informative day! We were warmly welcomed by the event organizers, who right away introduced us to an icebreaker game by taping the name of a Stampin’ Up! product to each attendee’s back – we had to guess what it was by asking Yes or No questions of those around us. We also got to listen to some terrific business presentations, including one that I particularly enjoyed about social media. It’s always fascinating to find out how different demonstrators run their businesses! The Make and Take project was absolutely GORGEOUS – I’ll share that with you next week – and of course, there were swap cards galore! The theme for this swap was “My Favourite Layout”, which was an irresistible one for me, as I love learning new layouts. As I expected, there are several here that I’m excited to try out myself!

As always, I’ve labeled the photos with the main products used and the names of the makers – except for cards which weren’t labeled when I received them, so I don’t know who made them!

I love this beautiful bridge card by Barb Hogg and am totally convinced to try this fold myself. It’s so cool-looking, and yes, it folds flat! It probably doesn’t hurt that she used one of my favourite Designer Series Papers, as well. I’m sure gonna miss “Share What You Love“!

My friend Carolyn used two different techniques, Polished Stone and Watercolour Smooching, to create these shimmery effects. She told me that they both require glossy paper to achieve, and since glossy paper is retiring at the end of May, now’s the time to learn these techniques!

All the demonstrators who went to OnStage last month received the beautiful Daisy Lane stamp set, which will be available to purchase July 4th. It looks great with the lovely Gingham Gala paper, the Daisy punch, and a fancy z-fold. This card arrived without a name, so I don’t know who made it, but I sure love the design!

I love what Dianne did here with the Delightfully Detailed laser-cut DSP. The sentiment is from the stamp set “Humming Along“. What a stunning card!

Erica did an amazing job with this card, showcasing the gorgeous new Perennial Essence suite, which will be available in the new catalogue starting June 4th. This is a great layout which I’ve used before myself!

Another anonymous card, and it’s too bad, because I’d love to give credit to whomever created this beautiful z-fold card with the Painted Harvest stamp set. Great layout, and great use of one of the retiring In Colors, Berry Burst!

I love this cut-card-front layout by Jean Myers, starring the new Mosaic Mood specialty DSP and a sentiment stamp from Free as a Bird. This gorgeous paper and the stamp set will be available June 4th.

Here’s my contribution to the swap – a centre step card featuring the Follow Your Art suite. I love this layout because it’s a terrific way to show off beautiful DSP without needing to use a lot of your stash to make a huge impact. This charming new suite will be available June 4th.

Marie Claire made this lovely card featuring the Well Said bundle and Tropical Chic. Lovely simple and effective layout – this one would be easy to mass-produce!

I loved this card before I opened it, but when I discovered the surprise fun fold, I loved it even more! It even features a bundle I’m ordering this month, Varied Vases. This is a great bundle to help you create beautiful cards for a variety of occasions right away. It’s on my order this month!

This gorgeous card has convinced me to try this layout for myself in the near future. It features the Bird Ballad suite, available June 4th. Beautiful!

Which one of these layouts is your favourite? Drop me a comment below and let me know!
