Fun-Raiser to Benefit Health Care Workers

Some of you might remember my 100 Cards Challenge last summer where I gave all my profits to the Nanaimo FoodShare Society. In that same vein, I’m thrilled to announce my upcoming Fun-Raiser to thank those who definitely need some fun in their lives: our hardworking health care workers.

Here’s how it works: I am looking for people to sponsor a gift for a healthcare worker in our community, at a cost of $30 each. These gifts are meant to offer an hour or so of fun, relaxation, joy, and creativity – an escape from the stress and sadness of their busy work life. They will receive a fully inclusive and easy-to-make crafting kit that will allow them to not only enjoy a fun crafting experience, but will also leave them with a collection of beautiful handmade cards for them, in turn, to pass on to friends and family members.

As shown in the sample photo below, these kits really do include everything needed, right down to instructions, but I will also be hosting a FREE Zoom crafting session so that if they choose, the recipients can get together and socialize while we assemble the cards.

(Sample kit shown)

Your donation of $30 covers the kit and a portion of the taxes; I’ll be covering the remainder of the taxes, and the shipping costs. The profits I make from this fun-raiser will all be donated back to the project so I can buy more kits. All donating sponsors will be acknowledged on the kit(s) they donate, and on my website. I am working with a co-ordinator at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital to distribute the kits to our heroic healthcare workers when they arrive. If you have contact with any other health care facilities who might like to be part of this project, please get in touch!

My goal is to donate 100 kits by November 14th. If you’d like to donate, all you need to do is send an e-transfer of $30 to lauralyzer@gmail.com. Also, I’d love for you to spread the word far and wide by sharing this link with your contacts.

Thanks for your support of our amazing health care workers, who have sacrificed so much in the past two years!

Christmas Cardmaking Mega-Class

The Christmas Cardmaking Mega-Class is one of my FAVOURITE days of the year! And since we had to cancel last year, we’re going to make this year’s event BIGGER and BETTER than ever to make up for it. Wondering what it’s all about? Read on!

The Mega-Class is a full day event, 10am – 4pm, where participants will make twelve Christmas cards – two each of six designs – in a fun, social setting. All supplies are provided, and so is lunch! There will also be a free gift for each attendee, and some special offers throughout the day, including:
– Mystery Hostess Party
– Door Prizes
– Pick-a-Prize with Order
… and more!

The event is held at the Rotary Field House in Nanaimo (850 Third Street), on Saturday, November 20th. The fee is $64, but until October 22nd you can claim the Early Bird discount and pay just $59. Be sure to register here right away to get your discount!

We’ll also be enjoying some games and fun on Facebook leading up to the in-person event on November 20th. You can join the fun here, and be sure to invite all your friends, as well!

One of the best parts of the Christmas Mega-Class is getting to try out LOTS of beautiful holiday products, including DSP, embellishments, and specialty papers. Check out the list at the end of the post to see just a few of the items you’ll get to play with at our class!

This year, instead of throwing the whole party myself, I’ve got my team helping me! Three of my Stampin’ Queen teammates, Arvon, Carol, and Dianna, have been working with me to make this year’s class the best ever. You won’t want to miss it … be sure to sign up today!

Product Spotlight: Blackberry Beauty

I fell in love with the Blackberry Beauty suite as soon as I saw it in the Autumn Mini Catalogue. The colour palette of deep Blackberry Bliss, lush gold accents, and the warm tones of Cinnamon Cider grabbed me right away, and the more I have played with this suite the more I enjoy it! In addition to the stunning specialty Designer Series Paper, the suite includes a stamp set and die bundle; an ephemera pack for embellishing your projects; gold shimmer ribbon; and gold shimmer vellum. This suite brings the bling to your autumn projects!

Since I love this suite so much, it’s no surprise that the featured product for October’s Creativity to Go is the Beauty of Tomorrow stamp set, for a cost of $37 (including tax and shipping). Sign up here by October 10th to get the stamp set AND prepared supplies and tutorials to make five cards like the ones shown here!

Tutorial: Pinwheel Card

Pinwheel cards are a new trend that crafters everywhere are trying out! They are very impressive, and actually quite simple to make. I even found a version that fits in the usual medium envelope from Stampin’ Up!

You will need the following cuts of cardstock, all the same colour:
5.75 x 4.25”
Scored at .75, 1.5, 2.25, 3” along short side
3 pieces 2.75 x 4.25”

Burnish all the score lines on your large piece of cardstock. Apply a strip of Tear & Tape to the very last panel, as shown below.

Fold the cardstock so that the four small panels create a box as shown below. Remove the backing on the Tear & Tape to attach. This is the centre of your pinwheel – and already has one ‘arm’ attached!

Apply another strip of Tear & Tape as shown below.

Peel off the backing of the Tear & Tape and attach another piece of cardstock going in the opposite direction of the first ‘arm’. Now your pinwheel has two arms!

Repeat the previous steps to add the third and fourth ‘arms’ to the pinwheel.

Now it’s time to add your Designer Series Paper!
You’ll need
four pieces 1.75 x 4”
four pieces 2.5 x 4”

Start laying out your DSP pieces to decide where they will all go. Each of the arms will have a piece of DSP on each side.

Choose one segment of the card to be the ‘front’ (i.e., what the recipient will see first when the open the envelope). Attach the DSP to this part of the card first; then, wrap some ribbon around from the back, at the left.

The picture below shows the back of the panel with the ribbon on it. Attach your DSP overtop of the ribbon.

Finish attaching all the rest of the DSP. You might want to add a piece of white cardstock to write your message.

Then, finish decorating the front of the card.

If you make a pinwheel card yourself, be sure to share a photo with me! I love to see your creations!

Retreats and Events and Free Bundles – Oh My!

Last weekend, I got to attend a 3-day crafting retreat here in Nanaimo, put on by a couple of fellow demonstrators. It was my first ever crafting retreat and NOW I AM HOOKED.

I knew that our registration fee included the Tidings and Trimmings bundle, but what I didn’t know was that there would be all this extra swag included, and that every attendee ALSO received at least one prize – usually an additional stamp-and-die bundle, sometimes with specialty paper and/or embellishments added as well. We were so, so, so spoiled!

Here are the four projects we got to make as part of the event, with our new bundle and the beautiful co-ordinating paper, Tidings of Christmas.

I took all my retired DSP to the event, and spent most of my time cutting and assembling cards to use up all my paper. I managed to make 105 cards! They just need a bit of stamping and embellishing to finish them off. What a great addition to my stash!

I used up all of my Whale of a Time, Snail Mail, and Fine Art Floral paper. Next up: Snowflake Wishes and Ice Cream Corner.

In addition to making my own projects, I also wandered the room to check out what other people were working on. There was lots of inspiration to be found!

It was also such a valuable opportunity to connect with other demonstrators in the area, learning from each other and offering support. I’ve never met a nicer group of people than Stampin’ Up! demonstrators! They are always willing to share advice, supplies, or a project tutorial.

After such an amazing weekend away, I’m already looking forward to my next event – OnStage! OnStage is a great perk of being a demonstrator – you get to see upcoming products, learn new techniques, get business training, receive free goodies, and have the opportunity to pre-purchase items before they are available to the public. This year the whole event is online, so you don’t even have to get out of your jammies to participate!

For the first time ever, Stampin’ Up! is offering an awesome perk to brand new demonstrators, so they don’t have to wait a year or more to attend OnStage. Even though registration is closed for current demonstrators, new demonstrators can still register to attend! Join my team by October 12 to take advantage of this awesome offer!

As an OnStage attendee, you’ll get to enjoy all the content and classes, giveaways, and access to the Product Purchase Premiere offer, along with the catalogue and brochures that come with that order. You’ll also be able to order brand-new products for the Stamp & Share Experience!

And don’t forget, the Sale-a-Bration offer of a free bundle is still in effect for one more week! Until September 30th, purchase your $135 Starter Kit – containing $165 in your choice of products – and add one of the bundles below absolutely free.If you have any questions about joining my team, please contact me, or click here to sign up now!
