Remember last week I promised to show you the amazing Make-and-Take project from the recent meeting I attended? Here it is!

This is such a gorgeous project, and yet really so simple to make. It starts with an 8 x 10” frame and a full sheet of Lemon Lime Twist cardstock as the backdrop. We used stamps from Tropical Chic, Touches of Texture, Petal Palette, and Timeless Textures, stamped in Lemon Lime Twist ink, to create some texture in the background. Really, you could use any stamps you have on hand for this step!

Then, we stamped on our four white squares (2.75”) using stamps from Playful Backgrounds and Beauty Abounds, in the four co-ordinating colours: Daffodil Delight, Balmy Blue, Grapefruit Grove, and Highland Heather.

These squares got layered with the Gingham Gala paper (3”) and a black cardstock square (3.25”).

I love the beautiful Butterfly Gala bundle, and I got to learn a new way of colouring the butterflies: with sponge daubers! Stamp the butterfly outline in Memento Black ink, then sponge on two co-ordinating ink colours to create an ombre effect. (NOTE: it has to be Memento black, or the ink will smear when you use the sponge daubers.) Okay, it looks pretty messy at this point …

… but look what happens after you punch it out!! Aren’t they gorgeous??

For the center piece, I got to learn another cool technique, using the stamp set All The Good Things. Did you know that you can use our markers (not Blends) to colour directly on red rubber stamps? That’s how I was able to create this image, with the tree trunk and pot coloured in Crumb Cake and the tree leaves coloured in Lemon Lime Twist (with some Old Olive texture added). The measurements for the white piece are 2-5/8 x 4”, and the black frame is 2-7/8 x 4.25”.

Now all that’s left is assembling!

I had a great time creating this project, and best of all, I got to learn some new techniques along the way. I love stepping outside of my usual “all cards all the time” comfort zone, so many thanks to Jennifer and Jean for organizing this fantastic make and take project!

This week’s Stampin’ Sunday video will show you how to make a simple treat pocket using the Envelope Punch Board. I can’t believe this awesome tool is retiring, so I had to show you one of my favourite projects with it before it’s gone!

You’ll need:
Envelope Punch Board
DSP cut to 4.5″ square

This fun treat holder is really quick and easy to make! It makes a perfect party favour, seasonal treat for Easter, Christmas, Valentines, or other, or just a ‘thinking of you’ gift for someone you care about.

Cardstock: 2 x 6.5” – score at 2.75 and 3.75”
DSP: 6.5 x 1.5” – score at 1, 3, 4, 6”

The treat holder holds three mini chocolate bars (Hershey’s nuggets), so you will also need three strips of DSP to wrap the nuggets, cut to 3 x 1.5”.

Start by scoring your cardstock and DSP. After scoring, you can use the scalloped tag topper punch to punch both ends of your cardstock.

Use strong adhesive (e.g. Tear and Tape) to fold the long DSP strip into a band.

This band will slide easily over the cardstock treat holder.

Use the three smaller strips of DSP to wrap around your chocolate nuggets.

Place the nuggets between the two score lines on your cardstock treat holder.

Decorate the treat holder as desired, including an 8″ length of ribbon to tie it closed.

I asked you in a previous post which of my craft fair projects you’d like to see a tutorial for, and the answer was “candle card”! Here are the instructions to make this awesome project!

Believe it or not, this card is made with only ONE piece of 8.5 x 11″ cardstock! Score along the short side at 2 3/4″, 5 1/2″ & 8 1/4″. (Open up the long arm at the side of your trimmer to see the 8 1/4″ measurement.)

Along the long side, score at 4 1/4″. Your cardstock should now look like this:

Now you’re going to cut along the 4 1/4″ score line from the first intersection of score lines to the third intersection, as shown by the black line in the photo below.

To do this, line up your cardstock at the 4 1/4″ measurement, and with the ruler up, put the blade at the first score line. Lower the ruler and cut down to the third score line, and then lift your blade.

Now your cardstock looks like this (from the side):

And from above:

Add adhesive as shown by the red line below, on both “top” corners. Stick your cardstock together to create the shape above.

Pinch the centre of your card together and fold the other two flaps behind, as shown below.

Use whatever thinlit shape you’d like to create an opening in your card centre.

Here is the top view of this step:

You can run this through your Big Shot and cut both openings at the same time, HOWEVER, you will not be able to run the cardstock all the way through – that’s because the part of the cardstock you are not cutting is six layers. Run it halfway through and then back out again.

Now that you’ve created your cardbase, it’s time to decorate! If you’re using vellum, add adhesive only to the corners – if you run adhesive all along the edges, it will show through your centre openings.

I used the Hometown Greetings edgelits to create these shapes. As you can see below, you’ll want to leave yourself lots of room below the shapes. Add adhesive as shown by the red lines.

Cut two pieces of white cardstock, 2.5 x 4″. Stamp to decorate as desired. I left one side mostly blank so it can be written on.

Decorate the front of the card as desired.

Here is the finished card, with a battery-operated tealight candle inside.
