Have you seen the beautiful project kit in the holiday catalogue, “Christmas Countdown“? This kit includes enough supplies to create 25 mini boxes, plus a sturdy outer box to hold them all. Fill the boxes with small gifts, and let the countdown begin!

While you can complete the project using the Christmas Countdown stamp set, creative demonstrators and crafters have come up with many other ways to use the kit. Here are some beautiful alternative projects using holiday-themed papers and products.

You can also use the kit to count down to a different event, such as Thanksgiving, Halloween, or a special birthday. Check out these alternatives!

One clever demonstrator decided to decorate the boxes with punch art to count down to a family trip to Disney World!

Or, you can simply decorate it with some of your favourite papers and let it be a year-round decor/organization item.

The sliding boxes/drawers have a front and back, so you can get two countdowns in one kit – use it to count down to Halloween, then flip the drawers around and use the countdown to Christmas side.

The possibilities are endless! Contact me today to order yours, or shop 24/7 at my online store. Be sure to show me a photo of your completed kit in the comments. I’d love to see what you use it for!

I held my second Fancy Folds class on the weekend and it was terrific!! Technically, I held the class twice, because what I learned from the first round of Fancy Folds is that a small class size is key – so I split the group of eight attendees into two groups of four, and held the same class on both Saturday and Sunday. Safe to say I am now super familiar with all these fancy fold cards!!

finished

The Pop Up Slider card is one I’ve been wanting to learn for a long time. The stitched rectangle framelits make it really easy to do, using the partial die-cutting technique to create the flap on the front of the card that slides up to reveal the stamped sentiment underneath.

Pop Up Stage Card

How gorgeous is the Pop Up Stage card? And yes, this magnificent creation folds flat to mail! This card comes together really quickly and is beautiful in person.

Shutter Card

This is the Shutter Card, definitely a challenging card to create. It took a bit of experimenting to make it look the way I wanted it to. However, the amazing effect is well worth it!

swing arm

And finally, the swing arm card. I first saw this card at a demonstrator meeting earlier this year. Again, it’s one that takes a bit of effort to create, but it’s worth it!

If you didn’t get a chance to attend the Fancy Folds class, don’t worry! You can purchase the written tutorials, complete with colour photos of each step, for $12. Or, you can purchase the tutorial package plus supplies – meaning, a pack of Designer Series Paper of your choosing, and co-ordinating cardstock, all cut, scored, and prepared for you – for $30. Just email me to make arrangements!

Have you made any projects with these fancy folds? Share them in the comments below! I love to see your creations!

Another meeting of the Vancouver Island Stampin’ Up! demonstrators group, another awesome collection of swap cards!

The theme for this swap was “New Catalogue Products”, which I am so excited about, because it means I can give you a sneak peek of these awesome new products, and get inspired by others’ creativity. There are so many ideas here that I can’t wait to try out for myself!

As always, I’ve labeled the photos with the main products used and the names of the makers – except for cards which weren’t labeled when I received them, so I don’t know who made them!

Don’t you just love this beautiful new designer series paper Adrienne used? It’s called Perennial Essence and it’s clearly inspired by the art of Monet. When you look at the paper in person, you can actually see the brush strokes! It’s just stunning. I also love the sentiments in the co-ordinating stamp set (Floral Essence), including this one: “All days are beautiful that begin with you.”

Ann really outdid herself with this amazing creation starring the new Follow Your Art suite, with a few extra stamps used from “Crafting Forever“. What an awesome project – and yes, the whole box folds flat for mailing!

Good Morning Magnolia is an awesome new stamp set, and I love that Barb chose to use some different colours here! Great colouring with the Blends, and the Country Floral embossing folder for the layer behind is the perfect accent to set off the flower.

I love the colours Bruni chose for her First Frost card – lovely card for a spring wedding!

I love the Birch background stamp Elke used here – just look at the awesome texture it adds to this card! The Daisy Lane stamp set is one of my top picks from the new catalogue, as well – the large daisy stamp co-ordinates with the pre-existing Daisy Punch, and there is a new smaller daisy and a new co-ordinating punch!

I love the simple stamping layout of Joanne’s Daisy Lane card. See the subtle sponged colour she added at the top left? Beautiful!

Laurel’s fancy-fold card uses Good Morning Magnolia and the Stitched Rectangles. Absolutely stunning!

This gorgeous Mosaic Mood DSP is so rich and detailed, you don’t need much else on your card. Works perfectly for this simple layout!

The Sailing Home suite is a new favourite of mine, and ideal for masculine cards of all kinds. Don’t you love the detail on the stamps, and the sweet sentiment “You are my true north”? Those silver trinkets are so terrific as well!

Another Mosaic card, this one by Carolyn. Carolyn notes that you can really “let the DSP do the talking”, and she has done a great job of that with this card! She also used a layer embossed with the Subtle embossing folder, which provides a perfect balance for the colourful details of the DSP.

Susan also used Mosaic Mood, with a cool fun fold! That sentiment “True friendship is one of God’s greatest gifts” is from “To a Wild Rose”, a new Distinktive stamp set.

I love the bright colours and fun images on this Pop of Petals card! Great card to share at a class, as everyone can make it their own.

Mi Ran used the Stitched Rectangles and vellum cardstock to create an Etch-a-Sketch card! Isn’t that fun?

Here’s my card, using the Sailing Home suite and a folded-corner design. I used the Take Your Pick tool to tease out the ends of the twine and make it look like frayed rope.

I love this layout by Erica! What a great way to show off our beautiful Designer Series Paper, in this case “Garden Lane”.

Dianne’s beautiful card uses the Perennial Essence paper, as well as the Floral Essence stamp set and co-ordinating punch. The stamp and punch create a three-petaled flower that you can layer together! I love how she used the Petal Pink vellum cardstock and organdy striped ribbon to embellish her project!

Which one of these cards is your favourite? Drop me a comment below and let me know!

The demonstrators I met at this event were warm, welcoming, and supportive and I can’t wait to see them again at our next get-together. If you’d like to join in at events like this, join my team and we can go to the next meeting together! Being a demonstrator is awesome – you get to work your own hours, have fun, meet new people, and craft your heart out. If you’re interested or have questions, let me know!

If these fabulous cards inspire you to order any of the products shown, you can shop 24/7 at my online store. Please note that many of these products won’t be available until June 4th – one week from today, yippee!! Don’t forget to use the current hostess code (over on the right-hand side of my website) to get a free gift from me as well! Happy Stampin’!

I’ve been really busy in the craft studio lately, creating lots of different projects to showcase the beautiful new products in the Occasions and Sale-a-Bration catalogues. I’ll share some of those creations – along with what I hope is a useful insight – with you today!

broadway cut card front

I created this card for a sketch challenge I found on another demonstrator’s page. I admit, the end result is not as awesome as I was hoping – but experimenting and trying different things is part of living a rich creative life, and I can learn from creations I don’t like as much as I learn from creations I’m proud of. In any case, this card prompted me to notice how little of the Broadway Bound paper I had left, and I decided to go ahead and use it all up….

broadway

… which led me to the creation of this card! I like the way the gold glimmer paper coordinates with the gold foil numbers on the DSP, and the two-step stamping from the Broadway Birthday stamp set matches the stylistic dots on the numbers as well!

butterflies squares

Butterfly Gala is one of my favourites, and I loved creating this card as my swap for this month’s team meeting. I’m really pleased with how it came together! Although cutting out all those squares took some time, the result is well worth it. I hope my teammates enjoy the cards!

hoppy

Inspired by Stampin’ Up!’s recent #simplestampin campaign, I wanted to create a card that showcased simple tools and techniques, featuring the “Hoppy for You” stamp set. You can earn this adorable stamp set free when you spend $60 during Sale-a-Bration! This card, along with the next two, are for next month’s workshops.

roost

Home to Roost” is the style of stamp set that is totally out of my comfort zone, but once in a while it’s good to try new things, right? I love the sentiment stamps (including the font!) and the grass, and that rooster looks good no matter what colours are used. This stamp set can also be earned free with a $60 purchase!

petals2

I can’t believe how long it took me to play with Pop of Petals from the annual catalogue – especially considering it was one of the very first things I ordered! I’m glad I finally got around to it, and I think the Gingham Gala DSP makes a perfect match for it. The sentiment stamp is from “Part of My Story“, a free Sale-a-Bration item.

And here’s the useful (I hope) insight. We’re often reminded that social media is a “highlight reel”, while we may be living a life that feels more like a collection of bloopers. Crafting is no different. When I post my creations online, or demonstrate them at a class, readers and attendees see the end results – the card I’m proud of – and may not be aware that I had to work through several versions I tried and hated, before figuring out how to make something I love. So, the beautiful Pop of Petals card above? Here’s what the first version looked like (I’m cringing, but sharing anyway!)

2019-01-20 09.19.14
So next time you sit down to create something, and then find out that you’re unhappy with the results – YOU ARE NOT ALONE! Don’t give up – you’re at the first stage of the creative process, and you might have to try a few more times before your disappointment turns into satisfaction and then pride.

Lesson over – moving on! 😉

octopus

After using up the last of my Broadway Bound DSP, it was time to dive in (heh) to Tranquil Textures DSP! I made a big batch of these charming octopus cards last summer and they were very popular, so I decided to stick with the same design to use up the last pieces of this wonderful paper. I really love the rich colours and the textures in the paper – it has a hand-painted look to it, and is perfect for masculine cards.

twin girls

And finally, this is one of my very favourite cards that I’ve created lately, using a mix of old and new products. The paper, stamps, and thinlits are retired, but the ribbon is new (another free Sale-a-Bration item), as well as the “Congratulations” stamp which is from Hand-Delivered. I’ve had the Twinkle Twinkle bundle on my list for a while, but hadn’t gotten around to buying it … meanwhile, a customer contacted me for a custom job, needing a card for the birth of twin girls. She and I were both very pleased with the result!

Leave me a comment and show me one of your recent creations! I’d love to see what you’re up to! If you’re inspired by any of the above, remember you can shop 24/7 at my online store – and if you’re local to Nanaimo, you can sign up for a workshop on my events page.

The Occasions catalogue is now live! Here are some of the products I’m excited to get my hands on. Will this help you narrow down your wish list, or perhaps add a few more items you hadn’t considered?

Best Item for Beginners – Vibrant Vases stamp set.
vibrant

With this fun, two-step stamp set, including a charming collection of sentiments, you’ll be able to create beautiful cards for a variety of occasions right away. And if you want to step it up, you can add the Vases Builder punch from the annual catalogue.

Best Sentiment Stamp Set – Strong and Beautiful. I love these empowering sentiments, for way more than just Mother’s Day. If you, like me, like to surround yourself with fierce awesome women, you’re going to love these sentiments!

strong

Best Graphic Stamp Set – There are a lot of great sets to choose from, but I keep coming back over and over again to Flowering Desert. Rather than one more floral motif, this fun stamp set will be great for both masculine and feminine cards, offering a lot of versatility and charm.

desert

Best Embellishment – Gingham Gala Adhesive-Backed Sequins. 250 sequins in 5 colours, 2 sizes, and 2 shapes … AND they’re self-adhesive? Add. To. Cart.

sequins

Best Bundle – it’s a tossup between the Piece of Cake bundle and the Butterfly Gala bundle. Both come with a hefty selection of photopolymer stamps, including lovely sentiments in charming fonts; both will be useful for variety of occasions; both are in the $40 range; and both come with a hand-held punch that co-ordinates with the stamped images. Bonus: Butterfly Gala allows you to stamp two butterfly images at once, and then punch them both out – and the punch also co-ordinates with the images on the beautiful Botanical Butterfly DSP, available during Sale-a-Bration.

Best Paper – All My Love. These beautiful paper features whimsical hearts and elegant florals in a classic colour combination, co-ordinates with two thinlits sets (Lovely Flowers and Be Mine), and is perfect for sending your loving messages for Valentine’s Day and all year round. With Crumb Cake, Balmy Blue, and Soft Sea Foam included on the colour palette, it won’t be too girly for those masculine cards!

all my love

Best New Tool – The big news with the Occasions catalogue is Cling Stamps. As announced in November, Stampin’ Up! will be phasing out their wood-mount rubber stamps; instead, stamp sets will be available in photopolymer or red rubber clear-mount. While the clear-mount stamps will be the same high-quality stamps you’re used to, the new double-sided labels are so sticky and clingy that Stampin’ Up! decided to rebrand them as Cling Stamps. Many crafters, myself included, have previously opted to leave the labels off our stamps because they don’t cling as well to the acrylic blocks – with the new labels, this will no longer be the case. In fact, you’ll want to take a bit of care when you mount your stamps, to make sure you don’t apply the labels incorrectly – because once they’re on, they are ON, and you’ll be able to ink, stamp, and clean without your stamp sliding off the block. Can I get a hallelujah?

11.01.18_gif_cling_engjp

ICYMI: Rectangle Stitched Shapes framelits. Demonstrators and customers have been asking for rectangle framelits for a while, and Stampin’ Up! is listening! I love how these 13 dies are stitched on the inside and the outside, to make your projects stand out no matter how you are using them. You can bundle the framelits with the charming “Amazing Life” stamp set for an affordable $67.50 (and get a free Sale-a-Bration reward while you’re at it!)

rectangle

The Lace embossing folder. I didn’t see it on my first look through the catalogue, but when I saw some samples online, I HAD to have it! So gorgeous!

lace
And don’t forget these awesome hostess sets, which you can only order if you host a qualifying party before May 31st!

Did I leave your favourite product off my list? Comment and let me know!
