I don’t know about you, but from my neighbourhood in South Nanaimo, I can see a winter wonderland as I type this blog post! Schools, including the university where I work, have been shut down for the last few days as the roads have been unsafe; however, it looks like we’re past the worst of it now (knock on wood) and we’ll soon be back to school/work/business as usual.

Having a few extra days at home was just fine by me, as I got to spend some time in my craft room designing cards for upcoming events and classes. Years ago, before I became a papercrafter, cross-stitch and embroidery were my crafts of choice, so I was excited to see photos online of people using the beautiful heart doilies to create string art. I just had to try it for myself!

It is really quite easy to do (even, I think, if you are not an experienced needleworker) and using the metallic thread creates a stunning effect. The fact that the doily already has all the holes there for you to work with definitely makes this easier! In fact, the only reason I opted not to teach this card at a class is that I don’t have enough needles for everyone.

I finished the card with rhinestones and Real Red ribbon, along with a stamp from the Meant to Be stamp set. I like how simple yet striking this design is!

I’ve put the shopping list for the card below – it’s a short list as you really don’t need much to create this card! I hope you enjoyed my project and that you have a wonderful Valentine’s Day.

Happy Stampin’!

This fun treat holder is really quick and easy to make! It makes a perfect party favour, seasonal treat for Easter, Christmas, Valentines, or other, or just a ‘thinking of you’ gift for someone you care about.

Cardstock: 2 x 6.5” – score at 2.75 and 3.75”
DSP: 6.5 x 1.5” – score at 1, 3, 4, 6”

The treat holder holds three mini chocolate bars (Hershey’s nuggets), so you will also need three strips of DSP to wrap the nuggets, cut to 3 x 1.5”.

Start by scoring your cardstock and DSP. After scoring, you can use the scalloped tag topper punch to punch both ends of your cardstock.

Use strong adhesive (e.g. Tear and Tape) to fold the long DSP strip into a band.

This band will slide easily over the cardstock treat holder.

Use the three smaller strips of DSP to wrap around your chocolate nuggets.

Place the nuggets between the two score lines on your cardstock treat holder.

Decorate the treat holder as desired, including an 8″ length of ribbon to tie it closed.

I’ve also posted a video of this project!

The Occasions catalogue is now live! Here are some of the products I’m excited to get my hands on. Will this help you narrow down your wish list, or perhaps add a few more items you hadn’t considered?

Best Item for Beginners – Vibrant Vases stamp set.

With this fun, two-step stamp set, including a charming collection of sentiments, you’ll be able to create beautiful cards for a variety of occasions right away. And if you want to step it up, you can add the Vases Builder punch from the annual catalogue.

Best Sentiment Stamp Set – Strong and Beautiful. I love these empowering sentiments, for way more than just Mother’s Day. If you, like me, like to surround yourself with fierce awesome women, you’re going to love these sentiments!

Best Graphic Stamp Set – There are a lot of great sets to choose from, but I keep coming back over and over again to Flowering Desert. Rather than one more floral motif, this fun stamp set will be great for both masculine and feminine cards, offering a lot of versatility and charm.

Best Embellishment – Gingham Gala Adhesive-Backed Sequins. 250 sequins in 5 colours, 2 sizes, and 2 shapes … AND they’re self-adhesive? Add. To. Cart.

Best Bundle – it’s a tossup between the Piece of Cake bundle and the Butterfly Gala bundle. Both come with a hefty selection of photopolymer stamps, including lovely sentiments in charming fonts; both will be useful for variety of occasions; both are in the $40 range; and both come with a hand-held punch that co-ordinates with the stamped images. Bonus: Butterfly Gala allows you to stamp two butterfly images at once, and then punch them both out – and the punch also co-ordinates with the images on the beautiful Botanical Butterfly DSP, available during Sale-a-Bration.

Best Paper – All My Love. These beautiful paper features whimsical hearts and elegant florals in a classic colour combination, co-ordinates with two thinlits sets (Lovely Flowers and Be Mine), and is perfect for sending your loving messages for Valentine’s Day and all year round. With Crumb Cake, Balmy Blue, and Soft Sea Foam included on the colour palette, it won’t be too girly for those masculine cards!

all my love

Best New Tool – The big news with the Occasions catalogue is Cling Stamps. As announced in November, Stampin’ Up! will be phasing out their wood-mount rubber stamps; instead, stamp sets will be available in photopolymer or red rubber clear-mount. While the clear-mount stamps will be the same high-quality stamps you’re used to, the new double-sided labels are so sticky and clingy that Stampin’ Up! decided to rebrand them as Cling Stamps. Many crafters, myself included, have previously opted to leave the labels off our stamps because they don’t cling as well to the acrylic blocks – with the new labels, this will no longer be the case. In fact, you’ll want to take a bit of care when you mount your stamps, to make sure you don’t apply the labels incorrectly – because once they’re on, they are ON, and you’ll be able to ink, stamp, and clean without your stamp sliding off the block. Can I get a hallelujah?

ICYMI: Rectangle Stitched Shapes framelits. Demonstrators and customers have been asking for rectangle framelits for a while, and Stampin’ Up! is listening! I love how these 13 dies are stitched on the inside and the outside, to make your projects stand out no matter how you are using them. You can bundle the framelits with the charming “Amazing Life” stamp set for an affordable $67.50 (and get a free Sale-a-Bration reward while you’re at it!)

The Lace embossing folder. I didn’t see it on my first look through the catalogue, but when I saw some samples online, I HAD to have it! So gorgeous!

And don’t forget these awesome hostess sets, which you can only order if you host a qualifying party before May 31st!

Did I leave your favourite product off my list? Comment and let me know!

I just adore this sweet little pandas in the Party Pandas stamp set! As soon as I saw them, I knew I had to create a Valentine’s card using the panda holding a letter.

I’m using up my stash of retired and non-Stampin’ Up paper, but the current Petal Passion paper would work so well with this card. I used my Melon Mambo watercolour pencil to colour in the heart on the envelope the panda is holding, and my Stitched Shapes and Layering Circles framelits to cut out the shapes. It’s a very simple card to create, and is sure to warm the heart of whomever receives it!

Here’s another adorable panda card I created! This card uses two Sale-a-Bration products – Party Pandas and Bubble Over Designer Series Paper! I also used the Layering Squares framelits and the Classic Label punch.

You can get the Party Pandas stamp set (or any other Sale-a-Bration product of your choice) for FREE when you order $60CAD in product before March 31st. You can order through my online store, or contact me to place your order. If you’re in Nanaimo, come along to a class to try out these and other current products!

At this time of year, when we’re all very excited about the new Occasions products, I like to remind everyone that there are still some amazing products available in the annual catalogue.

One of my favourites is the Sunshine Wishes thinlits. You can pair these thinlits with the Sunshine Sayings stamp set for a stunning array of sentiments that will make creating multiple cards easy and fun – but as you can see with the card below, you can create a beautiful card using only the thinlits!

I used Fresh Fig and Berry Burst for this card, with a Crumb Cake mat. The whisper white layer is embossed with a retired embossing folder that I just can’t let go of – but the current Falling Petals embossing folder would work really well with this design too. It goes to show you, Valentines cards don’t have to be only red and pink!

Comment below and show me what you’ve created with Sunshine Sayings, or show me a Valentine you’ve made! I love to read your comments and see your creations!
