Fancy Folds Part Two

I held my second Fancy Folds class on the weekend and it was terrific!! Technically, I held the class twice, because what I learned from the first round of Fancy Folds is that a small class size is key – so I split the group of eight attendees into two groups of four, and held the same class on both Saturday and Sunday. Safe to say I am now super familiar with all these fancy fold cards!!

finished

The Pop Up Slider card is one I’ve been wanting to learn for a long time. The stitched rectangle framelits make it really easy to do, using the partial die-cutting technique to create the flap on the front of the card that slides up to reveal the stamped sentiment underneath.

Pop Up Stage Card

How gorgeous is the Pop Up Stage card? And yes, this magnificent creation folds flat to mail! This card comes together really quickly and is beautiful in person.

Shutter Card

This is the Shutter Card, definitely a challenging card to create. It took a bit of experimenting to make it look the way I wanted it to. However, the amazing effect is well worth it!

swing arm

And finally, the swing arm card. I first saw this card at a demonstrator meeting earlier this year. Again, it’s one that takes a bit of effort to create, but it’s worth it!

If you didn’t get a chance to attend the Fancy Folds class, don’t worry! You can purchase the written tutorials, complete with colour photos of each step, for $12. Or, you can purchase the tutorial package plus supplies – meaning, a pack of Designer Series Paper of your choosing, and co-ordinating cardstock, all cut, scored, and prepared for you – for $30. Just email me to make arrangements!

Have you made any projects with these fancy folds? Share them in the comments below! I love to see your creations!

Product Spotlight: Healing Hugs

It was back in the beginning of June, after holding a workshop at the home of a brand new customer, when I realized I didn’t have a single stamp with any variant of “Get Well Soon”. It seemed too silly to be true …. but true it was! Fortunately, a quick review of the annual catalogue revealed the beautiful new Distinktive stamp set, “Healing Hugs”.

Distinktive stamp sets are so beautiful. These stamps are have a special texture that allows them to lay down the ink with varying levels of intensity, giving you photorealistic images with depth and dimension. Just look at these stunning floral images from the Stampin’ Up! catalogue:

You can find the Healing Hugs stamp set on page 80 of your annual catalogue, where you will also find a handy list of all the other Distinktive stamp sets. It’s easy to love this style of stamp, so be sure to look at all the sets to see which ones appeal to you!

In addition to the richly detailed floral images, Healing Hugs includes a terrific collection of “get well”-related sentiments, which is just what I needed last week when I got the news that two dear friends were both ill. It’s always sad to hear that a friend is unwell, but I was glad I could quickly make them some cards and let them know I was thinking of them.

I ended up making two similar cards, with only a couple of variations – using two different sentiments, and using a portrait layout versus landscape. I think the bright colours are a good choice to cheer up the recipients, and of course I am absolutely mesmerized by how gorgeous the flower images are.

These cards were so quick and easy to make, with just one layer and a few stamps applied. That meant I could pop them in the mail right away and get them into the hands of my dear friends. Hopefully these cards will brighten their day.

Seashore Blog Hop: Wedding

I’m so excited to be participating in the Seashore Stampers Blog Hop once again, and I’m sharing a card that’s very special to me. This month the theme is Wedding, and it just so happens that a dear friend of mine got married last weekend, so I get to share the card I made for her!

Christina and I first met in late 2016, at a cardmaking class. We hit it off right away and found out we’re even from the same hometown – what a fun coincidence! She soon started asking questions about joining Stampin’ Up!, and we met a few times to make sure all her questions were answered and that she felt confident taking that next step. In November 2017 she jumped in, and since that time she has been unstoppable! She reached both her Quick Start goals easily, and then reached another stampin’ milestone when she promoted to Silver …. all at the same time as she and her partner planned a wedding, bought a house, and adopted a new dog into their family! She gets more done in a day than most people do in a week and I have so much admiration and respect for her!

I knew right away that I wanted to make her a really special wedding card, and I thought the Magnolia Lane suite would be just perfect. I don’t have the dies for this set (yet!) but it was easy to do a bit of fussy cutting on the large flower. I CASE’d this design from two different cards that I saw online, and I loved the technique of stamping two flowers and cutting out the centre of one, to add a three-dimensional feel to the multiple petals. I think it turned out really well!

I didn’t have a lot of room to add a sentiment on the front of the card, so I stamped one from Beautiful Bouquet on the inside.  That stamp set has so many lovely sentiments, perfect for a wide variety of occasions!

I hope you enjoyed my project! Now don’t forget to click on the buttons below to continue on the blog hop, and enjoy all the other wedding theme creations! Click on “Previous” to visit Erica’s blog and “Next” to see what MiRan has created!

Happy Stampin’!

Band Together + New Embossing Folders

One of the fun things I do over the summer is play with lots and lots of products from the new annual catalogue and work on designing projects that I’ll use at my workshops over the September-June season. Today, I decided to play with a new bundle that was one of the first things to catch my eye when I saw the new catalogue – Band Together – as well as a couple of embossing folders and the new embossing plate.

Band Together is a really cool stamp-and-die bundle with gorgeous, intricate shapes made specifically to make a big splash on your card front. The sentiment stamps co-ordinate perfectly with the shapes, making it easy to create simple yet stunning cards.

I also wanted to play with my two new embossing folders, Scripty and Subtle. These are both 3D embossing folders, the kind that leave a deep impression on your cardstock. The new embossing plate makes it really easy to layer in your Big Shot – just use your multi-purpose platform, the embossing plate, and your folder.

If you’re wondering how you missed the embossing plate in your catalogue, you’re not imagining things – it isn’t in there! You can find it in the online store, but the product was developed after the catalogue had gone to print, so it doesn’t appear there.

Here are the two finished cards. Which one is your favourite? There are close-up photos below to help you decide!

Scripty embossing folder:

Subtle embossing folder:

Don’t forget, Bonus Days are still in effect from now through the end of July! With every $60 purchased in July, you will get a coupon code to use for $6 off an order placed in August. If you purchase the Band Together bundle, you will earn a coupon code – if you throw in the embossing plate, two embossing folders, and a pack of cardstock, you’ll earn TWO coupon codes!

Tutorial: Folded Corner Card

I first made a folded corner card years ago, and recently rediscovered the fun and simplicity of this fancy fold. Here it is using Daisy Lane, one of my top picks from the new annual catalogue! Remember – Stampin’ Up! has given me a challenge to sell three of these stamp sets by July 22nd. So if this set is on your wishlist, I’d love for you to help me reach that goal!

Cut your cardstock to 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ (usual cardbase size). Score at 4-1/4″.

With your trimmer upside down, as shown in the photo, move the card to the 3″ line and cut from the 2-1/2″ mark to the 4-7/8″ mark.  This will end your cutting 5/8″ from the edge of the card.

Rotate your card and line up at the 3″ mark; this will be at the end of your first cut line. Cut from there to the 5/8″ mark.  That’s it!

Flip this square over to create the folded-corner on the front of your card. Crease with bone folder.

I think what really makes this card ‘pop’ is the extra cardstock layering on the front of the card and on the inside.

On the inside, you’ll have your usual white insert of 4 x 5-1/4″.
Add another layer behind that one of 4-1/8 x 5-3/8″.

On the front of the card, use the same colour you used on the inside, and one additional layer; measurements are 2-5/8″ and 2-3/4″ squares, and of course your white square in 2-/1/2″.

Tutorial: Bird Ballad Snip & Fold

A few weeks ago, I received this card in a swap from another demonstrator, Tanya Sousa. I had seen this fold on Pinterest, etc. but wasn’t too fussed about it … then I saw it in person and immediately fell in love (of course, it doesn’t hurt that Tanya used one of my favourite new DSPs, Bird Ballad!) One of the cool things about this layout is that it gives you a really easy way to show both sides of the gorgeous paper. Here’s how to make it!

Tanya

Cut your DSP to card front size (4 x 5.25″).

Line it up in your trimmer at 2-5/8″. Cut from 1-1/2″ to the edge.

bird3

Fold back both sides and crease with your bone folder.

bird2

Decorate your card as desired.

bird ballad

How simple is that?!
