Holiday Catalogue 2019- Laura’s Top Picks

The holiday catalogue is now live! Here are some of the products I’m excited to get my hands on. Will this help you narrow down your wish list, or perhaps prompt you to add a few more items you hadn’t considered?

Best Item for Beginners – the Perfectly Plaid bundle
If you want to buy only ONE product from the holiday catalogue and still be able to make a stack of Christmas cards – Perfectly Plaid is your perfect pick! With several charming tree images, a co-ordinating punch, and a collection of holiday sentiments, this bundle will have you crafting in no time.

Best Sentiment Stamp Set – Itty Bitty Christmas
What a terrific collection of all the holiday sentiments you might need – for gift packaging and tags, for handmade cards, for hostess gifts and table favours, for home decor items and tree ornaments – this enormously versatile collection features sentiments from whimsical to elegant and everything in between. It’s on my must-have list for sure!

Best Graphic Stamp Set – Snow Front
If you adore the Waterfront stamp set, you’ll love Snow Front, which features sparse trees and wintry scenes. You can use the stamp sets alone or together to create any scene you can imagine. Moreover, these stamps can be used throughout the year for so many occasions other than Christmas – birthday, thank you, sympathy, thinking of you, and more!

Best Embellishment –Star Designer Elements
These gorgeous copper-coloured stars are self-adhesive and faceted for extra sparkle. At just $12.25 for a pack of 40, they are a terrific value, as well! They are sure to get a lot of use on a wide variety of holiday projects!

Best Paper –Brightly Gleaming
The minute I saw this stunning Specialty Designer Series Paper, I had to have it!! Every sheet of this 12 x 12″ paper features copper foil accents on one side, along with seasonal images and all-purpose patterns on the other. Mossy Meadow, Night of Navy, and Pretty Peacock make a GORGEOUS colour combination that is suitable not just for holidays but for masculine cards and gift-packaging throughout the year. It’s irresistible!

Best Punch Bundle – Merry Moose (runner up: Snowman Season)

This was a tough one to decide – charming snowman, or serene moose? Well, if I have to choose just one (and I do, at least for this blog post), it’s Merry Moose, again because it will be useful long after the holidays are over. Can’t you just see this handsome fella decorating a masculine birthday card? Or the sweet little raccoon on a child’s card? Even the tree images are going to come in handy all year round, making this one a winner for me.

(Shoutout to that adorable collection of snowmen, though!!)

Best Die Bundle – So Many Stars
Stitched dies have proven to be one of the most popular design elements of the last few years, and there’s no doubt that this bundle will be a huge hit. You’ll be able to create various custom die-cut stars with faux stitching and more in record time, and guess what (are you tired of hearing me say this?!) – stars are useful for so much more than holidays! They’ll be great for graduation cards, birthdays, congratulations, and so much more.

Best New Tool – Snow Globe Shaker Domes
Stampin’ Up! knows that we love making shaker cards, so they have given us a custom-built collection of products to help us do just that. Cut the shape into the cardstock using the Snow Globe Scenes dies; stamp images with Still Scenes stamp set; add a Snow Globe Shaker Dome, and fill with Snowflake Sequins. What a beautiful and unique holiday card, that anyone would love to receive!

Best Bling – Ice Stampin’ Glitter + Shimmery Crystal Effects
Every holiday project needs a little bling! You can use these products on their own, but when they are combined they create an amazing effect to rival Jack Frost – and you can get both for only $17. Simply gorgeous!

Best Halloween product – Ornate Frames Dies + Coffin Treat Boxes

Not much of a Halloween person? Fair enough, but I’m pretty sure you’ll find lots of uses for this terrific collection of frame dies. They’d be at home on any project (say it with me now) all year round!

And if, like me, you ARE into Halloween – well, chances are you’ll find these coffin-shaped treat boxes just as charming as I do! Use them as-is, or decorate them to suit your tastes – either way, they’ll be a fun addition to your Halloween celebrations!

Christmas Swap Cards

Another meeting of the Vancouver Island Stampin’ Up! demonstrators group, another awesome collection of swap cards! In case you missed it, I shared all the make and take projects last week.

This time around we got to make and exchange Christmas cards. This year’s holiday catalogue is packed full of awesome goodies, and many of them are on display with today’s swap cards. As always, I’ve labeled the photos with the main products used and the names of the makers – except for cards which weren’t labeled when I received them, so I don’t know who made them!

Did you spot the Cup of Christmas bundle in the holiday catalogue? One of the awesome things about it is that it features reversible stamps! One side of the stamp creates the polka-dot image as shown above, and the other side stamps a striped mug. How fun is that?! Great collection of holiday sentiments with this stamp set as well! I love that Adrienne has finished the card with some gold foil pieces to pick up the gold foil accents on the Wrapped in Plaid paper.

The first of several cards in today’s collection to feature puff paint, a fun new embellishment available in the holiday catalogue, Bonny’s card also features …. no stamping! That’s right, the Santa shape, trees, and even the sentiment are all die cuts. I love that she has used a combination of foil (for Santa and his sleigh) and glimmer paper (sentiment + snowy hill) to create a card with a lot of sparkle, and of course the snow on the trees is a great touch!

Carolyn did a terrific job creating this fun card featuring the Perfectly Plaid suite. The gold foil shapes add a touch of bling to the layout, as does the gold shimmer paint on the tag, which was embossed with the Swirls and Curls folder. And if you look carefully, you’ll see that the red background was also embossed with the Subtle folder – it adds such a great texture to the project!

This card by Crystal was the subject of much discussion at the meeting. How DID she create that fabulous background? Is it DSP? Is it the Birch stamp? Well, Crystal shared with us the how-to: she used her Stamparatus and, yes, the Birch background stamp. She stamped first with white craft ink, let it dry completely, then moved her cardstock 1/16″ down to stamp with Gray Granite ink. The result has so much realism and dimension!

Dianne’s card features several different products: the Christmas Gleaming bundle and Brightly Gleaming paper to make the ornaments, the #Elfie stamp set and blends to create the charming elf, and a die from Stitched Labels on which she stamped the sentiment. And, she used the ever-popular Subtle embossing folder to add texture in the background!

I love Erica’s colour choices here with this adorable little bird from Birds of a Feather stamp set! The stamp set also includes adorable birds to celebrate Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Valentine’s Day. Check it out on page 50 of your holiday catalogue!

This simple yet striking card by Jean is one of my favourites. Do you see how she scored borders around the outside of the card? What a terrific way to add interest!

Remember I told you that the Hammered Metal embossing folder was awesome? Well, here it is – was I right or what?! Madeleine has also used the Stitched Star dies to create that stunning star with gold foil. No wonder this card won first place!

MC’s charming card features the Holly Jolly bundle with this adorable hand-coloured Santa. How sweet!

I’ve had so many people ask me lately about making shaker cards, and now – Stampin’ Up! has made it easy, with the Snow Globe shaker domes! The stamp set provides beautiful wintery imagery, the co-ordinating dies cut them out, then the acetate domes encase the whole scene. You can add glitter or sequins to complete the effect. Simply stunning!

Another terrific card featuring the Christmas Gleaming suite, including the foil elements and the Hammered Metal embossing folder. Stunner of a card!

I love the way this creator (left anonymous as there was no name on the card) used puff paint on the In The Woods die to create this undeniably Christmasy tree, backed by the Wrapped in Plaid paper and a gorgeous gold-and-green ribbon. In The Woods can be found in your annual catalogue, while the rest of the products are in the holiday catalogue.

And of course you already saw the swap card that I made:

Make and Takes + Last Few Days for the Extra Extra promotion!

On the weekend I attended another fun and busy meeting of the Vancouver Island Stampin’ Up! demonstrators, and once again it was a delightful day full of crafts, friends, and learning. I participated in a Christmas card swap (stay tuned to see the beautiful cards I received!), and as usual there were several make-and-take projects – in fact, I even stepped out of my comfort zone to provide one of the projects myself! It was a little nerve-wracking to present in front of experienced demonstrators, but everyone made me feel very welcome, and my project was very well-received. Here it is (if you watched my most recent video, it may look familiar!).

This project uses items from my very favourite suite in the new holiday catalogue, “Christmas Gleaming”. The Designer Series paper is absolutely gorgeous, featuring copper foil accents on every sheet, and I love that the bundle comes with not one but TWO fantastic co-ordinating punches to cut out those ornaments! This bundle makes it so easy to create simple yet stunning cards, perfect for mass production!

And here are the other make-and-take projects I got to make at the meeting!

If you’ve been using Stampin’ Up! for a while, you may remember the now-retired Curvy Keepsakes die. This new Tiny Keepsakes die is the same style, but tinier – a huge advantage, since it now cuts an entire box from one piece of 6×6″ DSP. You can just imagine all the awesome creations to be made with this charming die! This project was created by Barb Tripps, who also chose the Feels Like Frost DSP – one of my favourites. Every piece of this paper features gorgeous photographic images on one side, and stunning silver foil designs on the other side. Pretty sure I’m going to need to order two packs of this, so I don’t need to choose between these two gorgeous sides!

Karen from Parksville walked us through how to do some amazing heat-embossing, waterwash painting, and other inking and colouring techniques for this card. I think mine turned out pretty well for a first try, and I’m excited to practice these techniques more!

Miran Briggs always seems to have an awesome 3D gift item for her make and take. I love this adorable little post-it note holder using the Follow Your Art Designer Series Paper!

The Perennial Essence DSP is one of the most popular in the catalogue, and this pocket card by Lynne Williams shows it off beautifully. To finish the flower, I coloured a pearl with my Blackberry Bliss Blends marker.

Sue Philip created this awesome accordion-fold pop-up card starring the new Snowman Season bundle. The snowman stamps and builder punch are just too cute, and I’m in love with the colour combination of Coastal Cabana and Real Red on the Let it Snow Designer Series Paper!

Which one of these cards is your favourite? Drop me a comment below and let me know!

A reminder that the Extra, Extra promotion ends this Sunday, August 31st! I would love for you to join my team so we can attend the next demonstrators’ meeting together! Being a demonstrator is awesome – you get to work your own hours, have fun, meet new people, and craft your heart out. You can read more about it here!

Tutorial: Scalloped Tag Topper Treat Holder

This fun treat holder is really quick and easy to make! It makes a perfect party favour, seasonal treat for Easter, Christmas, Valentines, or other, or just a ‘thinking of you’ gift for someone you care about.

Cardstock: 2 x 6.5” – score at 2.75 and 3.75”
DSP: 6.5 x 1.5” – score at 1, 3, 4, 6”

The treat holder holds three mini chocolate bars (Hershey’s nuggets), so you will also need three strips of DSP to wrap the nuggets, cut to 3 x 1.5”.

Start by scoring your cardstock and DSP. After scoring, you can use the scalloped tag topper punch to punch both ends of your cardstock.

Use strong adhesive (e.g. Tear and Tape) to fold the long DSP strip into a band.

This band will slide easily over the cardstock treat holder.

Use the three smaller strips of DSP to wrap around your chocolate nuggets.

Place the nuggets between the two score lines on your cardstock treat holder.

Decorate the treat holder as desired, including an 8″ length of ribbon to tie it closed.

I’ve also posted a video of this project!

If your browser/device doesn’t allow videos, click here to see the video on YouTube.

Have you made any other treat holders? Share them in the comments below! I love to see your creations!

Happy Stampin’!

Handmade Christmas Cards

Happy New Year! As the holiday season draws to a close, I wanted to share some of the beautiful handmade Christmas cards I received from friends, customers, and even strangers from around the world.

I’ve posted before about the fabulous Random Act of Kindness card group I belong to on Facebook. Here’s one I received in December. It might be hard to tell from the photo, but it uses the gold foil-edged cards, as well as red glimmer paper, silver foil, and gold foil. So much bling – perfect for the holidays!

all is bright

The Dashing Deer stamp set has been very popular this season, and hooray – it’s continuing on for the next few months! This beautiful card is also from a RAK friend, and uses gold embossing powder to make that deer really shine.

The exclusive Snow is Glistening stamp set was offered for sale in November, and my customer Angela made very good use of it to create this stunning card. I love how she used gold embossing on the snowflake, and beautiful rhinestones to decorate the tree.

glistening

Although I’m a non-drinker, I still appreciate the clever sentiments and beautiful images on this card featuring the Half-Full stamp set. My customer Trudy used the fine-tip glue pen to make the wine glass and bottle appear like they are full of liquid. Cool effect, eh?

half full

This card came from a customer I haven’t met yet – we’ve emailed back and forth over the last couple of years, and she recently moved to my town and will be coming to class this month! I’m looking forward to meeting her, and am tickled that she remembered me in her Christmas card mailout this year. This adorable card features a retired stamp set that I just love, set off with white embossing powder and charming red and gold embellishments. So beautiful – thank you, Chigusa!

I was in awe of this gorgeous shaker card created by my friend Dawn of Dawn’s Custom Cards. Just look at all that fun Christmasy bling in there! And the background of the shaker is silver foil, which is why you can see my hands reflected in the photo 😉

My friend Christine used the Star of Light stamp set along with both white and silver embossing powder to make this stunning card. I just love how elegant it is! I love watching how Christine has embraced her creative side in the past year, and finds so much joy in creating.

I hope you all had a very merry Christmas! Did you send or receive any handmade cards? Share your photos in the comments!

Hope you enjoy these beautiful cards as much as I do! If these fabulous cards inspire you to order any of the products shown, you can shop 24/7 at my online store. Happy Stampin’!

Craft Fair Wrap-Up

Why did I sign up to do two craft fairs this month? I have no idea.

That’s how I roll sometimes, though! (Note: Sometimes = All the Time. As my long-suffering husband would tell you.)

I decided to up the difficulty level on this particular project by not ordering any additional Stampin’ Up! tools or supplies prior to the event. I could only use what I had on hand, as well as buying supplementary items that I could get locally (e.g., chapsticks for my chapstick holders).

Me at Vendor Splendor fair, November 3rd.

Here are the items I had for sale at the two fairs I attended – in addition to good old-fashioned greeting cards, which I was selling by the singles and in an acetate box as a five-pack.

Most of these projects were new for me, so I had lots of fun learning how to make them, and discovering along the way which ones were worth the time and effort, and which ones weren’t. Given more time (and more varied supplies), there is certainly no shortage of charming gift projects to make, and I found plenty of inspiration on the Craft Fairs, Stampin’ Style Facebook group.

I went for variety of products rather than huge quantity in any one product, which meant I sold out of a few things, including the beautiful candle cards below. On the second day of the two-day event, I had people coming back to my booth to ask about the candle cards they’d seen the previous day…. but they were all gone!

Front of candle card
Inside of candle card

I also sold out of the star photo albums I made several years ago, the last time I was doing craft fairs. Last time I offered these, they were not a hot item. I got them out of the box they were stored in, figuring I might as well give it a shot … and by noon on the second day, I had none left. You never know!

Surprise, surprise …. after making all those gift items, the biggest sellers were CARDS! I sold over 85 cards, in singles, trios, and 5-packs (which I packaged in clear acetate boxes).

Which of these projects would you like to make? Comment below, and I’ll share a tutorial in the coming weeks!

Holiday 2018 Catalogue – Laura’s Top Picks

The holiday catalogue is now live! Here are some of the products I’m excited to get my hands on. Will this help you narrow down your wish list, or perhaps prompt you to add a few more items you hadn’t considered?

Best Item for Beginners – Making Christmas Bright bundle
This bundle is the fastest way to start making fun, Christmasy cards right away. The Christmas Bulb builder punch is so charming, and the Making Christmas bright stamp set includes a truly fabulous collection of images you can mix and match to make an enormous variety of cards. As if that weren’t enough, Stampin’ Up! has offered one of their amazing “You Can Make It” kits as an option to go along with this bundle! The kit includes white and coloured cardstock, three inkpads, dimensionals, clear block D, and the stamp set and punch bundle, all for under $100. This is a great place to start your holiday crafting!

Best Sentiment Stamp Set – Merry Christmas to All
This stamp set is pretty much unbeatable for the sheer volume and variety of sentiments you can create when you mix and match the 28 included stamps. I think it’s great that there’s finally a “Happy Christmas” option for our friends in England! If you want to add even more dimension to your projects, bundle this stamp set with the co-ordinating thinlits set (at a 10% savings) – but even without the thinlits, this stamp set is a must-have!

Best Graphic Stamp Set – Peaceful Noel
This soft, floral stamp set is sure to be in use all year round in your craft room. I love the flexibility offered by two- (or three-) step stamping, and there is even a co-ordinating sprig punch to go along with the stamp set. I’ve seen some stunning and creative samples with this set and I know it’s going to be a favourite!

Best Embellishment – Santa’s Workshop Enamel Shapes
These adorable shapes come in three colours (Garden Green, Poppy Parade, and Whisper White) and a variety of whimsical, holiday-themed shapes. Will you choose the gift bows, the snowflakes, the pine trees, or simply the charming round dots? Whatever your choice, these adhesive-backed shapes are going to add just the right touch to your holiday project.

Best Paper – All is Bright
No surprise here, as I already raved about this paper in last week’s blog post. This paper features photographic images on one side, and graphical images on the other. Whether you want to create classic, sophisticated cards or fun, whimsical cards, this paper has you covered!

Best Bundle – Peaceful Poinsettia
This bundle has everything you need: a simple and beautiful collection of sentiments, gorgeous detailed stamps that are ready for a variety of colouring options, and a stunning set of thinlits dies that include both positive and negative images. And look closely at those thinlits: the set includes a duplicate piece, which will cut down on repeated Big-Shot run-throughs. Yippee!

Best New Tool – Take Your Pick
Have you noticed the ongoing trend of innovative products coming out of Stampin’ Up! lately? The Stamparatus, watercolour pencils, multipurpose adhesive sheets, Stampin’ Blends, embossing plates … they just keep giving us more and more ways to change up our crafting and I for one am grateful! If you haven’t seen this new tool in action yet, check out this video to see what the excitement is all about. This tool is going to make it so easy to add embellishments right where you want them, without any sticky fingers along the way. What a treat!

Best Bling – Joyous Noel 6 x 6″ Glimmer Paper
The holiday season without bling is just blah, but fortunately your projects will have lots of lush sparkle when you use the new glimmer paper. I’m told that this paper doesn’t shed easily, which is an extra bonus – although technically, leaving glitter everywhere is just another way to spread holiday cheer, right? 😉

Best Halloween product – Spooky Bats punch
It may be named “spooky” but for me these bats are awfully charming! These three cute bats can dress up any Halloween project.

ICYMI: Foil-Edged Cards & Envelopes, Shimmer Paint

And don’t forget these two awesome hostess sets, which you can only order if you host a qualifying party between September 5th and January 2nd!
