A card sketch is a pattern that shows how to arrange elements on a card. It can be used as a starting point for card making, and can be customized with different supplies. Using card sketches can help jump start your creativity, and experiment with what styles you like or don’t like!

Benefits of using a card sketch

  • Saves time: Card sketches can provide quick inspiration and save time.
  • Promotes creativity: Card sketches allow for creativity, as you can choose the cardstock, colours, and embellishments.
  • Can be used with any supplies: You can use card sketches with any supplies you have on hand.

Tips for using a card sketch

  • Use patterned paper (Designer Series Paper; DSP) or stamp your own background.
  • Make the same card using different colors of ink and card stock.
  • Try using a different shape instead of a rectangle for your main image.
  • Use the same card sketch with different supplies for a totally different card.

Here’s a video I made that shows you how to follow a card sketch!

Where to find card sketches

There are lots of online and print resources for card sketches. One of my favourites is the Stampin’ Up! catalogue collection! Starting with the 2024 Annual Catalogue, Stampin’ Up! has included a page of sketches in each of their catalogues. I have gathered them below for you to download and enjoy!
