My friend and fellow crafter Monika was kind enough to teach me this amazing fold recently. I think you’ll love it too! It has a huge impact but is actually not that hard to make, once you know the trick!
Start with three cardstock squares measuring 5×5″.
Score each one vertically and horizontally at 2.5″, and along *one* diagonal (not both!).
Burnish all your score lines and fold each square into the pop-out shape shown below.
Once you have folded all three of your squares, it’s time to attach them! The two squares shown below are in different orientations: one with the opening towards the camera (right) and one with the opening towards the desk (left). This is really the only trick to assembling the card – you must attach your squares in alternating orientations: one facing up, one facing down, and so on.
Apply adhesive as shown below, and attach your two squares together.
Now your shape looks like this!
Repeat this step to attach the third square.
Note: You can actually create and attach more squares at this stage if you like! No matter how many squares you add, your card will still ‘squash’ down to a size of 2.5″ square. Just remember to keep alternating!
To decorate your card, you’ll need six squares of Designer Series Paper cut to 2.25″ square.
Cut your DSP diagonally and attach it to your card as shown.
You can fill in the gaps with 2.25″ squares of stamped cardstock, blank cardstock for writing a message, or even more Designer Series paper!
To finish, tie closed with a ribbon and add a sentiment.
What do you think – will you give the Squash Card a try? If so, please share a photo with me! I love to see your creations!
