As You See It Challenge: Hues in Twos

Posted on: September 3, 2020

I’m participating in the “As You See It” Challenge again this week. These weekly challenges are meant to inspire creativity and encourage participants to interpret the theme as they wish. Anyone is welcome to participate!

This week’s theme is Hues in Twos, a fill in the blank challenge. You complete the sentence by filling in the blank, then you make your project based on the words you used to fill in the blank. If this challenge inspires you, feel free to play along … you have until Wednesday, September 9th to join the fun!

My answer to this question isn’t two specific colours. Rather, I would answer with “My favourite colour duo is bright and cheerful!” It’s impossible for me to choose a specific colour combination, because there are so many gorgeous colours to choose from …. why would I set limits on myself?! My favourites change all the time. This particular project was inspired by the leftovers from two previous projects, which were sitting in the scraps bin on my desk.

A few days ago I had my first play with the new water painters, trying to get a feel for how to use them. So I had a couple pieces of white cardstock, painted with Melon Mambo ink, sitting in my scraps bin.

I’d also been cutting out flowers from Daffodil Delight cardstock, using the Poppy Moments dies, while working on a card design for an upcoming class.

I really liked the way the delicately outlined flower contrasted with the bold painted stripes, so I grabbed these bits, added a few more elements, and created this card:

It’s hard to tell from the photo, but the upper panel of the card is embossed with the Subtle embossing folder, which adds just the right amount of texture without overwhelming the rest of the card.

I hope you enjoyed my project! Don’t forget to click on the image below so you can visit the other blogs and see their chosen colour combinations. If you like my project, you can see the products I used in the shopping list at the bottom of the post.

Laura I’m a big fan of Brights too and Melon Mambo will always be one of my favourite pinks! I’m with you – my favourite colour pairings change all the time too bit I love your pink and yellow combo; the black and white balance your design and make the yellow accents really pop! Thanks for playing along with us over at As You See It Challenge this week!

Thanks so much, Joanne! It was a fun challenge! 😀

I agree – the best you can do is to pick what’s your favourite combo TODAY. Tomorrow might be different! Love your bright pairing of pinks and yellow. The black really helps them to pop. Your watercoloured striped dsp is fabulous. Thanks for playing along with us again at As You See It Challenge.

Thanks so much, Jan! 😀

Your hand-striped paper is delightful, and it looks great with the DD flowers! Very happy and cheerful! Thanks for sharing your color favs at As You See It this week!
