As You See It Challenge: Elements of Three

This week I’m participating in the “As You See It” Challenge. These weekly challenges are meant to inspire creativity and encourage participants to interpret the theme as they wish. Anyone is welcome to participate!

This week’s theme is “Elements of Three”, meaning that all participants need to have three of “something” on their card. And to make it more fun, it’s a speed challenge, with only ten minutes to complete the card! No time to go back and re-create anything if it doesn’t turn out the way you imagined … just COMMIT and keep moving forward!

For my card, I knew I wanted to use the Forever Fern stamp set (my first time inking up this set!), and I knew I wanted to use bright, unexpected colours. I got my inkpads and cardstock ready, then started the timer and hoped for the best … and I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out!

I just love the textured look of these Distinktive stamps, don’t you? And I had just enough time to add some speckles on the card front and the sentiment, after punching it out with my Lovely Labels Pick-a-Punch. My time to complete this card was 9:39 (whew!).

I hope you enjoyed my project! Don’t forget to click on the image below so you can visit the other blogs and see their “elements of three” projects. If you like my project, you can see the products I used in the shopping list at the bottom of the post.

Seashore Blog Hop: Wedding

Welcome to another blog hop with the Seashore Stampers! This month’s theme is weddings. Summer is wedding season, though certainly this year weddings are looking very different due to the pandemic. Which makes it all the more important to celebrate and connect with those who are getting married under these strange circumstances!

For my card, I used the beautiful new Peony Garden Designer Series Paper. Petal Pink and Gray Granite make such a stunning combination, and the paper is the star of this card (CASE’d from a design by Michelle Miller). The stamped sentiment is from Peaceful Moments, one of my favourite stamp sets – it’s got such a great collection of versatile sentiments for many occasions! I’ve put the shopping list below, so you can see all the products I used on my card.

I hope you enjoyed my project! Now don’t forget to click on the buttons below to continue on the blog hop, and enjoy all the other wedding theme creations! Click on “Previous” to visit Bruni’s blog and “Next” to see what MiRan has created! And remember – if you feel inspired by this or any other project, take advantage of the awesome Bonus Days promotion this month! For every $60 you spend in July (before tax and shipping), you’ll earn a $6 coupon to use in August. What a great deal!

Blog Hop: Christmas in July!

Image may contain: text

I’m participating in another blog hop with The Crafty Medic, and today we’re celebrating Christmas in July!

The new August to December Mini Catalogue goes live on August 4th, so it’s a perfect time to take a peek at all the wonderful holiday goodness that’s headed our way next month. (And of course, we lucky demonstrators can order from this catalogue already!)

I was so happy to see that the beautiful Christmas Gleaming bundle, along with the Brightly Gleaming Specialty Designer Series Paper, is returning this year. This was one of my top picks from last year’s holiday catalogue, and Stampin’ Up! has brought it back for us to enjoy again! The copper foil accents in the Brightly Gleaming paper are absolutely stunning, and it’s so quick and easy to put a card together with the stamp set and co-ordinating punches.

To show off more of this gorgeous paper, I put together a scrappy strips card as well. This big bold Christmas Greetings stamp is now retired, unfortunately, but it’s still a favourite in my craft room! I think the sentiment from Winter Woods stamp set would also look really good here.

Another thing I love about the Brightly Gleaming paper is that you could use it all year round! Here, I’ve used the less-sparkly side of the paper to make a masculine birthday card. Once I started playing with this paper, I couldn’t stop!

I hope you’ll follow the link below to see the other Christmas projects, and get excited about what’s coming in just ten more days!! (But who’s counting!!)

And remember, you have a few more days to get in on Bonus Days. For every $60 you spend in July (before tax and shipping), you’ll earn a $6 coupon to use in August – when you’ll be able to order from the annual catalogue AND the new August-December mini! I’ll be placing an order this coming Monday (July 27), so if you need anything be sure to contact me before then, or shop online and use hostess code H2HUA3ET.

Video Tutorial: Painters Tape Technique

Earlier this week I posted a card made with the painters tape technique and promised I’d post a video on how to do this fun, easy technique. It creates a really gorgeous and unique background for your cards! In addition to painters tape, you’ll need 2-4 inkpads, a large graphic stamp, and the following cardstock:

Card base: 5.5 x 8.5”
Mat layer: 3-5/8 x 4-7/8”
White: 3-3/8 x 4-5/8”

More Annual Catalogue Swap Cards!

I’ve written here before about attending meetings with the Vancouver Island Stampin’ Up! demonstrators group and participating in swaps. This group met again recently, with a twist … since Covid-19 prevents us from meeting in person, we held a virtual meeting via Zoom! We managed to include most of the important aspects of our meetings in the virtual format (except, of course, the delicious potluck lunch!). Instead of “Make and Take” projects, we had “Create With Me”, where the demonstrators leading those portions let us know ahead of time what supplies to prepare, and then led us through creating the projects; and we had four amazing product presentations where the speakers guided us through suites and products from the new catalogue (I got to present on the beautiful new In Colors). We had a wonderful business discussion on the use of Zoom and other tools that allow us to keep our businesses going during these strange times, and we even got to have door prizes given out to a lucky handful of winners!

One of our leaders, Jan, even figured out how we could do a virtual card swap! Everyone who chose to participate got an invite to a private Facebook group, where we could post a photo of our project, and browse through all the cards submitted by other demos. This turned out to be a really fun way to participate in a swap. Too many times, I will receive an absolutely stunning swap card, but not recognize the name of the person who created it, so I don’t get to tell them how much I love it. In this case, since everyone was posting their cards in the group, everyone could leave comments and reactions on the photos! It was so fun to give (and receive) this lovely feedback, and it really made me feel more connected to the other creators.

Now, without further ado, I’d love to share all these gorgeous swap cards with you. They are all created with products from the 2020 Annual Catalogue. As usual, I’ve labeled the photos with the main products used and the names of the makers, and I’ve added a shopping list below so you can get any of the supplies you need to recreate whichever cards you fall in love with. Enjoy!

Now that you’re feeling inspired, remember that you can take advantage of the awesome Bonus Days promotion this month! For every $60 you spend in July (before tax and shipping), you’ll earn a $6 coupon to use in August. What a great deal! And don’t forget that I am always looking for new members to join my team and participate in fun events and swaps like these. Learn more here, and then get in touch with your questions!

Blog Hop: Grayscale Colour Challenge

I’m participating in another blog hop with The Crafty Medic, and this time it’s a Colour Challenge! I was quite inspired when I saw the announcement of “grayscale” and I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to play with the painter’s tape technique.

If you haven’t tried the painter’s tape technique before, don’t worry – I’ve got a video tutorial to show you how it’s done.

I hope you’ll follow the link to see the other grayscale projects … and you can even vote for your favourite projects!

If you’re feeling inspired by this project or any other, remember that you can find all the supplies at my online store. Remember to use the current hostess code when you order and you’ll receive a free gift from me! And don’t forget about Bonus Days … for every $60 you spend in July (before tax and shipping), you’ll earn a $6 coupon to use in August. What a great deal!

Tutorial: Split Card Technique

I’ve been seeing some cards made with the Split Card technique recently and I think it’s pretty cool, so I tried it out! This technique works best with large, graphic stamps that you can layer up to create two cards at once.

Start with a piece of cardstock measuring 8 x 5.25″. Make light pencil marks on the cardstock at 4″ so you can see where the centre is. For this card I used Good Morning Magnolia and the coordinating Magnolia Memory dies, so I cut myself two masks with the large magnolia die before beginning to stamp.

Stamp your images down the centre of your cardstock, using the masks as necessary as you go so that you can create overlapping images. (For more on masking, see video here.)

Continue stamping to fill the centre of your cardstock, from top to bottom.

Colour your images if desired. Then, cut your cardstock down the centre at 4″.

Now you have two beautiful cardfronts (size 4 x 5.25″). Add a sentiment and finish your cards as desired.

Here are some more cards I made with the same technique. It was fun to play with different stamps and sentiments, and I especially enjoyed using one card front to create a vertical and one to create a horizontal card.

Remember that Bonus Days are on now! For every $60 you spend in July(before tax and shipping), you’ll earn a $6 coupon to use in August. What a great deal! Check out the product list below for this project and be sure to shop strategically (in $60 increments) to maximize your coupons. 😀
