Tutorial: Northern Lights Technique

The Northern Lights technique is perfect for the wintry cards we make at this time of year, and it’s easier to create than you think! Choose a few ink colours, grab your sponge daubers, and try it for yourself!

Sponge alternating ink colours in vertical stripes on your white cardstock. (I used Pacific Point, Rich Razzleberry, and Daffodil Delight.)

Repeat to cover the whole area. Experiment with overlapping the ink colours (e.g. yellow overlapping blue will make green).

Stamp your image in Memento Black ink. I used stamps from Rooted in Nature.

Sponge with Night of Navy to create ground under the stamped image. Sponge daub the edges with Night of Navy.

Lightly swipe the Night of Navy over the entire piece, in vertical motions.

If desired, add stars with a white gel pen or white craft ink.

Finish your card as desired.

Happy Stampin’!
