Tutorial: Picture Perfect Party De-stash + Metallic Twine Tip

Posted on: August 7, 2018

What a great long weekend I had! Since we had no big plans, I got to spend time in my craft room every day, and I got so many cards done. Continuing in my quest to use up all my retired Designer Series Paper, I ‘de-stashed’ all my Picture Perfect Party paper.

I used this lovely, brightly-coloured paper at a class in the spring to make the diagonal-cut card front cards, but I still had plenty left – in fact, the paper I had left ended up making 50 cards!

My first design used a whole card front (4 x 5.25″) of DSP, plus a horizontal strip across the front to add some contrast. The DSP strip is 1 x 4″ and the cardstock strip is 1.25 x 4″. I used the 2″ circle punch and the starburst punch for the sentiment, and embellished with copper metallic thread, faceted gems, and glitter enamel dots. The “Happy Birthday” stamp is from “Happy Birthday Gorgeous“.

Here’s a quick tip for making the metallic thread loops. First, apply adhesive to the back of the piece where the thread is going to go. Then, wrap the thread several times around one of your acrylic blocks – choose a block that’s bigger than the piece you’re trying to accent (in this case, I needed to choose a block that was slightly bigger than the starburst punch).

As you slide the thread loops off the block, pinch in the centre so the threads form a figure-8 shape and stick them down to your cardstock piece. You can then play with the loops as desired to spread them out.

After cutting the 4 x 5.25″ card fronts from the 6 x 6″ paper stack, I had lots of 2″ strips left over, so I made another pile of cards with a slightly different design.

These ones used a cardstock accent of 4 x 5.25″, which I embossed with the Scattered Sequins embossing folder. I cut the DSP strips to 2 x 5 1/8″ so the cardstock would frame the DSP.

This was my first time using the Scattered Sequins folder and I was really pleased with the results! It is stunning!
