Tutorial: Dutch Door Fold Card

Posted on: January 2, 2018

I came across the Dutch Door fold in the spring when I was planning my June class, and decided to pair it with the Beautiful Bouquet stamp set and Petal Garden DSP to create a teacher thank-you card. I really love this fun, simple fold, and have created several different cards with it since! Here are some of the cards I’ve created – you can see how easy it is to completely change the look of the design by using a different paper, sentiment, and shape on the front centre of the card. Read below for the tutorial so you can create your own Dutch Door card!

Start with two pieces of the same colour cardstock, one measuring 5.5 x 4.25” and one 8.5 x 2.75”.

Score the 8.5 x 2.75” piece in the centre (4.25”).

Cut two pieces of DSP, 2.5 x 4”. Cut one piece of Whisper White or Very Vanilla cardstock to the same size.

Attach the scored piece of cardstock to the bottom of the card base, with no border. This creates your “door”.

Attach one piece of DSP to the top of the card base, leaving a border around the top and sides. Attach the second piece of DSP to the front of the scored piece of cardstock.

Attach the White or Vanilla cardstock to the inside of the scored piece, leaving a small border around the bottom and sides.

Embellish as desired. Keep in mind that when attaching the embellished element to the front of your card, you will only use adhesive on the bottom part of the cardstock, so that the “door” will still open.
