Tutorial: Unicorn Card

How much do you love the adorable new Magical Mates bundle in the Occasions catalogue? There are so many great projects out there using these products! Here is just one of them.

This charming card uses the co-ordinating Myths and Magic Specialty Designer Series Paper. It’s hard to tell in the photo, but every piece of this paper has one side with sparkly accents (e.g. the unicorn panel above). The other side has a co-ordinating pattern (e.g. the cloud panel). I actually didn’t realize this paper had the sparkly accents until it arrived – I LOVE IT and can’t wait to create more projects with it!

Card base (Dapper Denim): 5 1/2 x 8 1/2″
Mat (Pool Party): 4 x 5 1/4″
DSP panels: 3 3/4 x 1 7/8″ (cut two or three to this size)*
Smaller mat (Pool Party): 2 1/2 x 3 1/2″
Whisper White: 2 3/8 x 3 3/8″

*In the card above, the middle panel is whisper white cardstock which I stamped with two stamps from the Magical Day stamp set in Dapper Denim and Pool Party ink. You could handstamp one panel as I have done, or cut three panels of DSP.

I also used the Glitter Enamel dots and Wink of Stella to embellish this card and add yet more sparkle.

Eclipse Technique

The eclipse technique is very hot right now in papercrafting! Don’t believe me? Check out the Google results right here.

I decided to try my hand at it last weekend and was really pleased with the results. Using my Large Letter framelits and the Seaside Shore stamp set, as well as some retired Designer Series Paper, I created this beautiful piece.

The key to eclipse technique is to include a contrasting colour of cardstock behind the one you are punching your shapes from. This will create a shadow effect. If you look closely, you’ll see that while the letters are ‘bumped up’ using a dimensional, the inner pieces – the half-circles of the B and the triangle of the A – are attached with adhesive tape, meaning they are ‘behind’ the letters.

This piece will be perfect for Island-ish, a charming local boutique where staff and customers love all things beach-related! Island-ish stocks Inkyfingers cards and papercraft products, and I bet they will love this addition!

Tutorial: Sampler Card

After a lot of trial and error, I finally figured out a sampler card format that I like! The one pictured uses Christmas paper (because I’m trying to use up my stash), but you could use this layout with any designer series paper that you like.

Card base: 5 1/4 x 8 1/2″
Mat: 3 7/8 x 5 1/8″
Four cardstock rectangles: 1 7/8 x 2 1/2″
Four DSP rectangles: 1 3/4 x 2 3/8″

Embellish as desired.

Product Spotlight: Sunshine Wishes

At this time of year, when we’re all very excited about the new Occasions products, I like to remind everyone that there are still some amazing products available in the annual catalogue.

One of my favourites is the Sunshine Wishes thinlits. You can pair these thinlits with the Sunshine Sayings stamp set for a stunning array of sentiments that will make creating multiple cards easy and fun – but as you can see with the card below, you can create a beautiful card using only the thinlits!

I used Fresh Fig and Berry Burst for this card, with a Crumb Cake mat. The whisper white layer is embossed with a retired embossing folder that I just can’t let go of – but the current Falling Petals embossing folder would work really well with this design too. It goes to show you, Valentines cards don’t have to be only red and pink!

How to Make the Most of Sale-a-Bration …

Are you keen to earn lots of Sale-a-Bration rewards PLUS the extra perk of hostess rewards?

I’m looking for three people* willing to spend $60 a month for January, February, and March. Yes the commitment is high, but the time frame is short (just three months) and the bonus is that EVERYONE will get rewards, not just the hostess.

Here’s a card I made using two free SAB products – Party Pandas and Bubble Over DSP!

Every month, every member will get at least one Sale-a-Bration reward. And that month’s hostess would receive at least 10% Stampin’ Rewards (i.e. free product) in addition to her Sale-a-Bration reward.

If you’re interested, why not chat with your friends and fellow stampers and form a club of three? It will mean great rewards for all of you, and start your new year off with a ton of fun stamping!

Contact me if you’re interested, or have questions!

*Not available to those who are already members of a Stampers’ Ten club.

Tutorial: Dutch Door Fold Card

I came across the Dutch Door fold in the spring when I was planning my June class, and decided to pair it with the Beautiful Bouquet stamp set and Petal Garden DSP to create a teacher thank-you card. I really love this fun, simple fold, and have created several different cards with it since! Here are some of the cards I’ve created – you can see how easy it is to completely change the look of the design by using a different paper, sentiment, and shape on the front centre of the card. Read below for the tutorial so you can create your own Dutch Door card!

Start with two pieces of the same colour cardstock, one measuring 5.5 x 4.25” and one 8.5 x 2.75”.

Score the 8.5 x 2.75” piece in the centre (4.25”).

Cut two pieces of DSP, 2.5 x 4”. Cut one piece of Whisper White or Very Vanilla cardstock to the same size.

Attach the scored piece of cardstock to the bottom of the card base, with no border. This creates your “door”.

Attach one piece of DSP to the top of the card base, leaving a border around the top and sides. Attach the second piece of DSP to the front of the scored piece of cardstock.

Attach the White or Vanilla cardstock to the inside of the scored piece, leaving a small border around the bottom and sides.

Embellish as desired. Keep in mind that when attaching the embellished element to the front of your card, you will only use adhesive on the bottom part of the cardstock, so that the “door” will still open.
